With the State competition kicking off this weekend and it featuring a lot of Broncos and Qld girls, I figured it's worth keeping track of, even if it's only for myself. It comes with some interesting changes following the post-lockdown Holcim Cup competition that got squeezed in before the NRLW season last year.
With travel now allowed, the NQ Gold Stars and CQ Capras are able to compete again, Souths Logan have withdrawn this season following a large player exodus, notably to the Valleys Diehards, who are taking the place of Ipswich Brothers. Replacing the Magpies is a Barbarian-style week-by-week team in the Queensland Valkyries. This team will be made up of some permanent players, tryout development players, and surplus players from other teams that will get released each week by coaches.

*out for season, both original co-captains
Coach: Adrian Vowles
Coach: Tahnee Norris
Coach: Amanda Ohl
Coach: Gavin Lloyd
Coach: Chris O'Connell
Coach: Scott Prince
Coach: Craig Green
Coach: Wayne Treleaven
To be honest, it was hard finding the accurate squads, as there was conflicting information from the squads listed on the QRL website to the Round 1 team lists to the individual clubs themselves as to who was playing this weekend but I suppose the nature of what is still essentially amateur sport is open to a lot random players appearing throughout the season. Covid restrictions may be playing their part there still too
Overall, some big changes obviously with the new teams, and players like Warriors stalwart Georgia Hale (Sam Lisone is her partner, hence the gold coast move), Shaylee Bent (to keep an eye on David) and Jamie Chapman from the Dragons joining the competition.
Burleigh is stacked again, even more so with Upton signing and Pilley having recovered from her ACL. Valleys look strong just off their initial recruitment. Tweed will be good with the NRLW imports and Tarryn Aiken going strength to strength. My girl Robbo captaining West Brisbane is awesome, hope she kills it. Hopefully Teitzel can have a true breakout season too after only playing 6 games last season
