I don't really understand the Jennings selection, he's worse in defence than Idris, and atm much worse in attack too.

Because he's the future in the centres for NSW. You lot are always on your high horse about how orsm QLD were 5 years ago for picking smokies and building a team, then you go on and say that NSW need to copy QLD and do the same, and then so we do, we start picking for the future so then you ask stupid questions and criticise sections.

Idiots.

We picked the right players though. We knew that at the time. We knew that this group of players would develop into a very good Rugby League team, and they did that and then some.

Not convinced Jennings is the right long term centre prospect for NSW.

The thing about the smokies that QLD pick is that they always seem to perform in origin games, even if they aren't in the best club form. Will be interesting to see how Jennings goes, cause his club form is ordinary at best at the moment.

I'd hardly say that Jennings is any more the future of NSW origin than Idris is, but obviously they wanted a specialist centre on that particular side.

Hey. This thread is so shit, it reminds me of the last 5 years of NSW.

If they are picking for the future why did Gas get a start over Idris? Jason King over Tolman?

Let's be honest here in, the case of Jennings' selection, Stuart would have selected Cooper before him if he could.

It's not about the future at all, it was just about selecting a natural left side centre.

Because he doesn't believe Idris and Tolman are the future. And I agree with him. Lawrence and Jennings is the future centres and Tolman is over rated right now an lacks impact - doesn't look anything like an Origin player yet.[/quote:2ihcj683]

And Jason King provides impact how... [icon_shru

He makes hit ups and makes the meters and he is tough, big, solid player. Tolman lacks aggression and punch. King is way better suited to origin.

Not that King is perfect for origin but there is a severe lack of decent NSW props.
What about Weyman? Surely he could have got a spot ahead of King.

King got in on the back of his incumbency, nothing else really.

I'm fine with him appearing over Tolman as well. Although I'd rather have Tolman at my club, being a front row in Origin it's all about quality > quantity. Tolman will get there but at only 23 he's just too young.

Also before it's brought up, yes I realise they selected Merrin off the bench. It's a little different though - Merrin reminds me a lot like Lazarus where as Tolman is just a workhorse.

His fitness is very poor and he's struggling from his groin injury still. I can see why Weyman wasn't picked.[/quote:42q6ucn3]
Fair enough, haven't really watched him this year but he goes alright.

I thought he was pretty good on Friday against the Dogs - would bump off tacklers and roll a few extra metres.

It's strange how some players are deemed fit (King, Jennings, Gasnier, Dugan etc.) but played little football before Origin 1 but the likes of Lewis and Weyman are deemed unfit despite having good games a little over a week before the game.

Strange.

Still not their strangest move - deciding Hayne isn't a winger but a second five eigth would be like Qld deciding to shun Boyd for similar reasons.

Eh, their loss.

i went back and watched most of last years series, and my god, NSW have made a massive mistake in not picking hayne imo. yes, him and tahu let in a try or 2 by not reading the attack too well with hayne on the wing but everytime hayne got the ball, he was dangerous. i am so glad we will not see him in a blues jersey come wednesday

Yes, Game 3 in particular showed just how dangerous he is and he looked prime for a big series when he basically carried Parramatta for 60 minutes and looked to of beaten the Cowboys only for the side to fall to a heap.
