I can't see how Coates gets in over Cobbo. Slater yadda yadda, it's his first year coaching and his reputation is on the line, I don't think he'll select on bias.

I don't know, maybe I'm being biased but Coates offers nothing you want from an elite winger other than finishing. Shit defence, makes no metres, doesn't create chances on his own. Origin is absolutely a game of field position and X Factor and Coates offers nothing there.

With Fidow getting some wing games before origin I think it's between him and Oates/Cobbo.

Coates would be my 4th choice.
Murray T from the cowboys would also be in the mix I'd have him about level or just above Coates.
On form it should be Cobbo and Oates, you could argue their the top 2 in form wingers in the comp right now or atleast top 5.

Coates shouldn't be there ahead of our two or the Cows two (Hammer and Tualagi?) but he will be selected and I don't mind one bit, less Broncs in the better. We will definitely lose Haas, Cobbo, Capewell and Staggs. It will just be interesting to see if Oates and Flegler join them.

Cant see Coates getting in unless Billy is having Storm bias. He was only selected for Origin 2 last year due to an Ronaldo being booted and barely made it into Origin 3

I'll take the other end of that bet. Coates is a certainty. Selwyn would be the crowd pleaser on the other wing. That's who the press is talking up. That's who will generate the buzz. But if it were up to me, I'd hold off until game two. I expect Hammer to get a jersey, but I don't know which one. Not fullback, but maybe wing. Holmes is another. Walsh must be in consideration too.

Exactly. Coates is incumbent, and has 10 tries under his belt this season (as does Oates). He's probably improved this season so I can't see why he'd be dropped. He plays on the right (same as Selwyn).

Speaking of Coates and weird body language, when did he become such a grumpy bastard? He used to grin from ear to ear when he played for us:

If Kev is doing his job he'll be having a quiet word in Billy's shell like and telling him to bring Cobbs into camp this year and if his form continues and a spot opens up because of injury then play him in game 2 or 3. Otherwise, Kev needs to protect one of our number one assets and push for him to be brought into camp like every other rookie with the view to him playing the following year.

Get the development wrong and you ruin the player for life.

Get it right and you have a lifelong superstar.

The temptation with rep teams is to pick all the "best players." But what really works, with limited training time, is picking the "best combinations." Players who already know each others games.

A lot of QLD's success over the years has been down to building a core of players who either play together at club level, or have combined in rep teams over the years. NSW, on the other hand, have traditionally chopped and changed at whim. They broke that tradition when they went with the Penrith combo last year rather than mix and match. And then when Cleary was injured, they reverted in game three, which they lost.

If NSW had gone in with an all Souths spine, they probably would've won.

That's why sticking with incumbents has merit. Even if their recent form might not demand it. Gagai gets it.

Billy will pick Coates.

It's good to have a few blokes who can play anywhere in the backline. Oates would have to be a very strong consideration as well.

I would pick Oates over Coates, but they play on different sides.

I think it will be Coates and Oates, but there will be a lot of pressure on Billy and the selectors to go with Cobbo. I still think

1. Ponga
2. Oates
3. Holmes
4. Gagai
5. Coates

is how it will go. Possibly Hammer in for Oates but I'd go Oates.

If I’m reading between the lines correctly, which I am, you’re suggesting a QLD spine of Billy Walters, Gamble, and Mam.

Is Drinkwater a Qlder?
I think Cowboys Murray Taulagi must be close to getting a run on the wing, giving the form he's in..
Yeah Tualagi has been fantastic for a couple of years now. Deserves a crack. Personally I’d have him and Oates. Oates metres out of trouble are going to be the difference between winning and losing.

Drinks is a filthy blue
