Our realistic chances?

I always lean towards the negative, not because I don't like the team but because I try not to get my hopes up. But looking at it realistically, I think I have a reason to be negative about our premiership prospects at this point.

Let's look at our season. The only games we've won against teams currently in the top 8 are:
4. Souths (twice)
8. Tigers (narrowly)

We've lost to top 8 teams:
2. Melbourne
5. Sharks
6. Cowboys (twice)
7. Manly

We still haven't played the Bulldogs who are by far the form team of the competition.

We've got a telling injury toll. Internationals Yow Yeh, Reed, and now Hodges. Origin player Parker is out. Copley out for an extended period.

And then there's the well documented problems with our attack.

Realistically, I think a finals spot will be a good achievement given all of that. A premiership would be a miracle.

Should make the finals but even a win in the finals is a bonus at this point IMO. Still if everything clicks we could pull off a miracle but it won't happen.

wow that isnt good reading (teams we've beaten in the 8).

i'll always keep hope because at the end of the day i love the team.. but things dont look great at the moment.

That's the reality of it. I think a top 4 finish is still a possibility which would be a good result but unless something changes quickly we will be gone in straight sets.

The question I have is what happens next year. If we keep doing the same thing we will make the 8 again but I seriously don't think I can watch another year of dummy half running, we have a better roster than that.

A first grade coach needs to bring more than that to the table. If he can't do it himself then recruit someone who can. At some point the club will need to ask if Hook can deliver us a premiership, not just a few years of solid results.

We all understand that we need a pattern to win the grind and get field position. A pattern that we can go back to under duress but we also need to play some football off the back of it.

We're going to have a couple of suspensions to add to the list too.

we could very well be 6th by the end of this round.

to actually make the top 4 from there we are going to have to win most of the remaining games, so that would mean probably two of the big 3 games.

It is possible for other teams to drop games as well

I'd consider Warriors being a top 8 team we've beaten, they'll be switching with Tigers for the 8th spot.

Yes, but the Warriors soundly beat us first time around, and if not for Maloney having an off night with the boot they would've won last week. We certainly didn't look like "beating" them to be honest (as good as our defence was).

We got 2 points last week, but I don't count it as a win.

Very true. But going by the same logic then that manly loss was a win.

Not that it really matters - we don't look like winning anything right now.

True. Swings and roundabouts

... was going to start this thread myself...

i.e. Can we beat the Dogs/Manly on GF day at ANZ? Esp Dogs? hmmmmmmmmm.... Not oozing confidence there. If anything I think we'll have a better chance against the storm and that is praying Slater has an off day... I don't know... the 6/7 worry me.

The crucial question is: Is Wallace good enough to be a premiership winning halfback with a rookie 6?

I have to say, 2008 remains a very painful year and to a lesser extent 2011. Due to the nature of the way we lost, 08... so painful.

To this day - 02 and 08 remain the years we really should have been in the GF and had a crack at it.

I can't see us beating Manly or the Bulldogs any time soon, nor the Storm for that matter.

We have 2 chances of making the GF, let alone winning it.

Buckley's and none

No....not by a long shot. He couldn't do it even with Locky holding his hand let alone a 20yr old rookie in Corey Norman

and moving towards next year with this, the Hunt and Norman halves partnership should be revisited and Wallace should be benched. Starting ASAP......

It's either that or we really have to start laying on some gravy to entice "someone else" to Brisbane. I wonder if we even tried with DCE when he was flip flopping with his Manley contract at the start of the year?

All doom and gloom aside, I think Brisbane have had a successful year. Not too many would have given us a chance pre-season of even making the semis. I still have faith in Anthony Griffin and with the bulk of the younger playing group having future success.......
