PLAYER Patrick Carrigan

Some of Capewell's efforts cost us tries in the 2023 GF. It seemed like he was really slowing down. It felt like the right call to get rid of him. Of course, it doesn't help we replaced him with basically no one as bench second-row.

It felt like it was the right time to get Piaks in full time and if not for regular injuries, it was the right call. Piaks has been great when he's been there and we've since won a comp with him at 2RF.

The problem was, as mentioned above, we replaced Capewell with no one. Of course, as things stand right now, we are actually going to have the same no depth problem at second-row next year...but increased to the middles, the centres, the wingers and the fullback.

Some of this chat about Carrigan is just so short sighted. He is being absolutely smashed with defensive workload because we give away non stop penalties and 6 agains, although he is a big offender in that department. He is averaging 45 tackles a game and 135m. If he goes back down to making 30 tackles a game, I'm sure he'd bump those metres back up to the 160m+ areas. He's not a robot, can't have it both ways.

Agreed. Need someone like a Tupou Francis or even Ezra to come along and take some minutes through the middle and get him a decent rest so he is fresher but also dropping that tackle count requirement down.
