Paul Kent hangs Wally Lewis out to dry

I too got to experience that time, that year of 92. I attended a bunch of games down in Sydney where I was making a dollar at the time including the grand final, our first premiership. It was Lazurus who led the charge, he set the standard for the forwards who in previous years were good but weren't battle hardened for the whole of a season. I think I remember it was written that Lazurus told WB in 91 that if he signed Lazo he would deliver them a premiership and history tells us we was faithful to his word.

Bennett did say he truly felt convinced in 1992 when they defeated defending premiers Penrith panthers in an away game in round 19. They had the minor premiership virtually wrapped up, the panthers were fighting to keep their finals chances alive. It was raining and going to be a real grind fest and the sort of circumstances earlier Bronco sides were known to be troubled by. However they showed the toughness and determination to grind out a 12-6 win.

A great time to be a fan. The amount of games we would run away with was astonishing. Teams would stick with us to the 60th minute or so and then we would put 4 or 5 tries on in the blink of an eye.
I remember a particular game vs the Wests Tigers, it may have been in 2000. The scores were locked up at 12 all at HT. In the second half they outscored their opponents 42-0 and had 83% posession. When they got on a roll, it was a beautiful thing to watch and they were basically unstoppable.

Good memory.

The Tigers weren't awful either. They were playing some good football and were getting the results until that second half blitz from the Broncos.

They weren't the same after that.

Was it in 2000?

Was it in 2000?

Round 20, 2000 to be exact.

Although it appears I may have given Brisbane too much credit. That was the Tigers 4th loss on the trot and it followed their Round 18 loss against Penrith where they surrendered a 23 point lead with 23 minutes to go.

It was still a good win for the Broncos and put an end to a shaky Origin period. The Broncos went onto flog Canterbury, Penrith & St. George Illawarra and cemented their spot as premiership favourites.
