OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

I get the annoyance, I really do. But since 2023, every contract has been a circus, the talk of every contract has been a circus, all the while he kept saying he didn't want to leave. But the stories and noise kept coming.

Full respect for what he has done on the pitch for us, but this has unfortunately been a chance of happening since the stunt he and his manager pulled mid season 2023.

This is just how it goes now.
I agree with this, it seemed like every year it was the same story off a different page, and the manager is 90% of this issue, he is so good he can demand $$ any where. But you can't pay overs and blow the cap out... I just can't see him in Souths colors 🤣

Wonder what the odds are Klese ends up at the Rabbits before long.
He doesn't seem like much of a player to be honest... was there talk about Hannay moving him to prop?

He's nowhere near big enough or impactful enough to play in the middle, so it's basically indicating that he isn't providing any impact on the edge and they can't keep putting him there over someone that will.

Oh yes we can. Bailed his dumb ass out of a bind on more than one occasion, bent over backwards to accommodate him and his deadshit managers demands, floated captaincy to him, stood by him when he was part of the team that got us out first spoon.
**** him and his career, hope the wheels fall off hard.
Someone in here said he’s owes us nothing

I think it sucks he is leaving and I think there will be a big hole to fill. Regardless of the constant circus, he has always put in and he has always held others accountable on the field. That's huge. Whoever comes in after him has to have the same level of commitment and effort on the field. Willison could well be it, and he's shown he's capable, but it's a bit different proving yourself compared to finally being given the reins and needing to do it every single week while earning the money.

He has a young family and he's the primary breadwinner for his other siblings. I can't begrudge him for taking the bag to set himself up for this. He was a huge part in delivering a premiership and like others have said, may feel that he's done his job and it's time to look out for himself first and foremost. I'd be doubtful that the money is the same when taking into account 3rd party stuff, but even if it is, so be it. I don't think he owes us anything and we've mutually benefited. I would be gutted if this was a couple of years ago when we were in the doldrums but he stuck around (despite the release stuff...) and now we're in a much better position partially because of him. I'm not sure I entirely agree that we've gotten his best years as it sounds a bit reminiscent of when we lost GI (you know what I mean) and a lot said he was done and his knee was ****ed and so on - went on to play a big role in Souths breaking the drought and made those who wrote him off a bit foolish in the process.

Having said all this, we now have an opportunity to secure our future with the money that he will free up and I am confident the club will be able to take this opportunity to spend it wisely to ensure this. Again, if this was a few years ago I'd be very ****ing concerned but we seem to have gotten our shit in order, so let's trust the club knows what to do.

All the very best Payne, apart from when you play against us and when you play for the blues - **** you in those cases.

The 1.2 mill has to be BS.
If we were offering the same and he has delayed signing for the last month then Souths walk in last week, slap 1.2 mill on a contract and he signs within a few days. Yeah right.
Media are supporting this fantasy too because they love the Broncos getting a kick in the peaches.
Man if Hass left for the same amount of money to Souths... that hurts even more.

Just saying Walsh would ever do this, Truly the next broncos goat
you mean like when he left the first time?
players have a short career. the average is 43 games or something pitiful.
not to mention one bad injury and it's curtains or curtains for your ceiling earning capacity.
least he gave us a premiership before he ditched.

He's saying now he needed a change.
He's better off saying nothing because coming out with this BS is frankly embarrassing.
Gone from loving the club to needing a change very quickly.

Maybe he though 3 years of Maguires tough training would be too much, so choose to leave where he wouldn't have to face it

where did he say this?

Apparently they offered 1.2 , just like we did…..
Sydney media twisting already... if he took the same money as broncos then it's a really bad decision from Haas.

Goes to a weaker team in a significantly more expensive city for the same coin... would be a coup from souths, but an absolutely horrendous look to his Prestige Worldwide management team

Payne seriously limits his TPA because he won't do alcohol and won't do gambling which is 98% of rugby league.

He's no Walsh either, let's be honest he seems aloof and is hardly personable.

He's not making money there.
Do you also think that he's just trying to get us to move with an R360 release clause (like Souths) and then bail on them?

This. It's so ****ing weird. Like just let the circus of journo leaks and rumours play out as usual.

The Rabbitohs releasing a statement kind of makes sense for them. They wanted to gloat, and their supporters want something good. But for us, it's really weird. Almost reads like 'don't ****ing talk to us, we have work to do', or something to that effect.

The next few days are going to be a circus anyway. Part of me senses a backflip while he's with team mates 24/7.
My thought would be if it's even legal within the NRL rules that they can release statements during the cooling off period.

They'd be releasing the statement to try and control the narrative and make it infinitely harder for Haas to backflip if he was even thinking about that.

I had read though Souths possibly put in a clause that if R360 gets up and running he could exit, that would be interesting to see if thats the case as if 360 gets off the ground, does he go to it?
