I’ll just put something slightly different out there (having walked in their shoes once upon a time 🤦‍♂️), what really agitates journos is not getting information .. feeling like they’re being shut out.. to this point, it appears that they’ve been fed a few bites from the Haas camp and Bennett .. But the Broncos haven’t said a thing..

The journos are climbing the walls right now to crack this story open and find out the ‘why’ .. With a lot of the Broncos top brass en route to England, they’re getting nothing from the club, which will be frustrating them a lot.. and some of that will bleed into their reporting because they do have BIG egos
 
It's more likely we didn't go backwards; we stayed the same. There is a good few outlets now saying our offer didn't reflect his status in the game.

So, if we offered the same 1.2m and Souths went 1.5+ to 'reflect his status', they are just running with us low balling him.

I feel terrible for these poor journos, just trying their best to smear people and **** people over. You know what I find annoying? Journos.

Which I can get, and even somewhat appreciate. But how can you just go live with reporting that has only got one sides information? They need to get this stuff out ASAP to maximise profit, but as you said, they've got nothing from the Broncos. They are only getting info from Payne camp and Bennett camp, who's depiction of events and circumstances will be pro Rabbit, neg Bronco.

This is what annoys me about the current state of journalism. If it comes out in 2 weeks when Broncos return that they didn't really low ball him, there just isn't the same noise made about it, and our club has just been shit talked for weeks for no reason. Maybe thats on me for caring too much lol.

Yeah we all feel it as fans .. unfortunately “journalism” nowadays is so much more profit driven and pressurised that reporters can’t give a story any room to breathe.. if they get something, they shoot first and ask the rest of the questions later.. or else someone else will and they won’t be first to break the yarn.. it’s a vicious cycle and with fewer journos in the game nowadays, it’s not going to get any better

Hopefully it becomes even fewer. Honestly to be a journo these days you would have to have zero integrity, there is no other option.

Do you expect Payne to call a journalist and say he has the shits with Patty or Reece for looking at his baby mama’s tits the wrong way or something? You will never know why he left, but journalists are the same as you. They speculate and run with whispers. Don’t pretend you’re above it.
 
If the above is true and the Broncos did lowball him by offering him less than what he’s on now, then I guess we deserve what we got. Damn

I expect them, well I don't expect them because they are gutter dogs, but what would be nice is for them to report the facts, and when they are speculating make clear that it is speculation and not pass it off as fact.

Do you honestly think that is true, it doesn't even make sense! The most that is believable is we refused to increase his current salary, I don't think there has ever been a case where a premiership winning player has been offered less than their current.

Not having a go at you btw, but with the lies that journos put it they have to at least pass the pub test.
 
I'd suspect there is lots of complete bullshit by the media getting spewed on this right now. Our club has been pretty solid on our retention, so I am going to have faith in what they're doing. Haas wants to be worshipped and treated like an almighty King. We have put a line in the sand and said enough is enough. I support that message.

Yeah, ‘lowballed’ is very open to interpretation.. Like you, I don’t think for one second the Broncos came in offered him $800,000 ‘take it or leave it’ .. most likely an extension of the amount he’s currently on..

Which again, would indicate good discipline from the Broncos side of things .. but also makes the ‘to Souths on the same money’ thing look highly questionable
 
If we'd lowballed him with an offer that is greatly offensive he would have accepted South Sydney's offer and waived the cooling-off period to be able to close it and move on.

IMO he wants us to match them (+ the clauses) and will then terminate their contract to sign ours. He doesn't want change, he just wants us to match them and he clearly expects it.
