OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

Logically, Souths would have to be one of the worst clubs to go to.

We all want cash but fair dinkum, there would be other clubs with a bit more of a chance of winning the comp than Souths. I can't shake this thought that his management wanted to use another club to get us to up our offer.
Yep

People turn quickly eh. Anyone remember who sprinted 30 metres and forced Cleary to pass instead of drop kick in the 78th minute of a PRELIMINARY FINAL!!!!!!!!??????

It's a massive ****en loss for us.
I think you've mis-remembered based on the commentary... there were 3-4 other players who ALSO sprinted, either before or at the same time. Payne was at marker, the closest...

I asked ai about Hass contract. From what it could dig up it believes their are clauses for Wayne and definitely clauses for R360 or expansion. My bet is this correct and Hass has chosen the club that gave him everything he wanted. The Broncos obviously either wanted him long term with zero outs or the one year. It's blatantly obvious this had to do with exits plus security. Hass wanted to hedge every bet while screwing the club long term as we would essentially not be able to get in the market. I hope the club pulls any offer and lets the chips fall as they are.

I'm more worried / concerned about him agitating for an early release this year and creating a distraction which threatens to de-rail this season (which is our best chance for another premiership in the near future) than him leaving next season.

Listened to the Kent podcast while doing my cardio this arvo. Holy **** 😂

He almost said we got lucky last year to win it, but sort of caught himself and said a lot of things fell our way.

Then it was all about how this will destroy our season, and really hammering home the issues that must be present at Brisbane for him to reach out to Souths.

Would not recommend. Maybe its good toilet listening.

I think this is no chance Harry.

Objectively speaking, what does an early release actually do for him?

Secondly, KK is still on their roster and they are already pushing sh*t uphill to remain cap compliant.

Third, Haas is loyal to his team mates and would want to end his tenure on a high alongside Patty and Reyno

I hope you're right mate but he has form in this area and has tried to leave mid-season before even without a solid deal in place to go to.

It's clear he's not the brightest bulb and it seems like he has awful guidance around him who can push him any which way if it happens to benefit them.

Kent is sharp thinker on a lot of broader rugby league issues and calling the NRL & clubs to account on things .. but he’s nowhere near as sharp when it comes to more narrow football discussion and what players are thinking / feeling etc..
I don’t think he’s very tuned in to the way modern day footballers tick.. that’s become apparent to me over the last year or so since he’s had his daily platform to speak about everything NRL related..

I mean the glaring example is 2021 when he said Penrith were ‘done’ after they lost in week one of the finals to Souths..

Its a horrible pairing, him and Crawls too.

Crawls was saying how you need the 1-2 punch in forwards to be successful, mentioning the Panthers for Fish and Leota, us with Patty and Payne. Without winning it, the glaring outlier here is Melb. Whens the last time they had a big big earning prop, yet they still are there or there abouts every single year because they prioritise the spine. That doesn't fit the narrative though.

Then all the talk about how Penrith and their dynasty would never let this happen...

We are the current premiers ffs. 😂 You would swear we just won the spoon. Kent said he even had us no chance this year even before this news. No chance? That's an absolutely ridiculous statement from someone who works producing NRL media content and has worked as a Journo.

last season with NAS ...

although TBF he spent more time suspended than he did on the pitch 😛

Fair, he was on good money but I didn't even consider him due to how shit he has been for years.

Been 2 days since this dropped and I'm still not understanding it. Walker is 37 next year and there's no recognised halves in their team. Clubs don't go deep into finals without good halves.
