Firstly, five-eight is a much more important position than prop. It is one of the positions you should be spending your cash.

Secondly, never ever base your recruitment decisions on what one of the biggest basket case clubs in Australian sport do.
 
I do find it odd that he would tell his teammates via WhatsApp and that the players would let that be known. Like you have been here for 10 years and you are sending a WhatsApp message?

As he should be based on his potential to influence a game. Haas is a luxury purchase with a lot of baggage with his contracts and team and family. A luxury purchase Brisbane can now afford due to having an established and performing spine, let’s see how Souths digest their purchase in 2027.

Reading between the lines this indicates to me that these things are likely true.

1) something happened in training camp that rubbed Payne the wrong way. I can go anywhere and don’t need to put up with this treatment. Something like that. Would be inclined to not want to address the club in person as the coach is going to be there also.

2) last minute thing. For sure Wayne is still the master planner who thinks in decades while others think in weeks… but this contract does look like it was rushed through in a weekend, hence no leaks with the news.

That's true. We should just give up. Not much we can do with the best spine in the competition, a multi premiership winning coach, and a couple million in salary cap space.

Hey, my memory is shot these days. Remind me, what happened in 1998 once glenn lazuaras left? Completely different though aye....
 
I reckon he is off Madge. He could have left anytime to play under Wayne.

This assumption is based on zero evidence, zero insider knowledge and is mere speculation over a cup of coffee on a slow day at work, so just as credible as any nrl journalists report.
 
CM just released an article from Payne himself where he confirms that this had nothing to do with Madge or the Broncos and basically said he has no idea where people get this stuff from, we just won a premiership together. Said the decision is purely family based as he has a bigger support network in Sydney and felt like he needed to be a leader for his family and make the move to Sydney.

I'm sure all the scumbag journos and fans that have insisted it was issues with Madge or low-balling etc. will just say this is spin because heaven forbid they have some accountability for once in their miserable lives.

No that won't be enough. Bizarrely what Payne Haas has to say is almost irrelevant at this point. Journalists are too invested in these click bait storylines about falling out with Madge, lowballing , R360. We will just keep hearing about them. Likewise many of the fans on here seem desperate to find a reason for Haas leaving that reflects badly on him.
 
One thing I don't understand is why Payne couldn't have prepared all this beforehand and avoid this circus. It's the same method every time. I get it that the media will still do their thing but as a fan I would be way more understanding. Oh well just my 10 cents possibly 5.
