OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

Good luck to Payne and thanks for the service. I get moving to be closer to family but at the end of the day Haas is mates with money ball Williams so dollars would have played a big part in it.

Haas is still relatively young for a prop but as witnessed this year he has had some niggling back injuries start to creep in and this shit doesn't improve till you retire. Souffs need much more than a prop to win a GF and while Haas may carry them to the finals their aging roster and part time player Latrell (both in games played and on field performance) will ensure that is as far as I can see them going.

The fact that Lomax had signed a contract in August for R360, that meant R360 was kinda legit (I think lol) Just shows Payne was leaving anyway after next year (and probably will only play one year with Rabbits if R360 does come back). It looks like they are waiting for union World Cup late 2027, then they think players will join in 28. So he was bound to leave anyway. Did we get any info if we offered the clause like rabbits, that can leave for R360? Or we had no clauses offered?

No way of knowing how true that is. With SBW, Haas and the systemically oppressed Khawaja in their stable I sense a pattern with this team.

I have such a low opinion of the player management industry that I'm likely off mark with this opinion... but will give it anway :)

Career risk my chaps. For sure you can get 1.2M-1.3M at the drop of a hat at any club right now, but what about in 1-2-3 years time? A LOT can change in this time, including injuries. Brisbane for sure would be better long term wise for outside the cap opportunities and futures. I'm certain they could have inserted a R360 (and that makes perfect sense) clause into a Brisbane deal to get it over the line and also secure much longer than 3 years. Dude is 26 and at the peak of his negotiating power (and in the end just a prop) and they do a move that would suit a young player, going to a weaker club for what may be less money effectively, to play with a coach you think is better for you.

We've seen how JT cashed in on a 10 year deal, well done to that manager! And how JT had a steepish decline in his ability, like to think Paas is much different? Well you may think this but please show me the money first.. Sheesh.
This is exactly why they wanted more than one year but with options in Hass favour.

If he signed a one year deal he risks a season ending injury or an injury that diminishes his ability going forward. This would impact his earning potential going forward.

The Rabbits deal allows has to bet on R360 getting off the ground, allowing him to walk. While it also allows him to stay on if ot doesn't or god forbid he does an acl or something.

But the Rabbits hold all the risk. They are essentially betting on R360 going nowhere and Wayne not getting poached to PNG.

The risk is two fold, they can get strong armed by Wayne on his next contact because he will use png and Hass as leverage if R360 is in play. While also Hass will have Wayne and 360 if he makes a move to exit for 360 or renegotiate with Rabbits.

Iny opinion these types of deals are for desperate clubs. Everyone comparing this to a Lazo signing are out of their mind. Lazo didn't come into a side and hold our cap hostage while waiting to defect to another comp. He also didn't monopolise our cap. The Rabbits have three people signed for 2028, and Hass will be taking up 1.3-1.8 or so from there.

Lets see where this goes.

:rofl

Hoping the circus quickly moves on.

Glad the Broncos waived the 10 day cooling off period.

It proves the Broncos aren't desperate to keep him.

Haas could have waived it, but I think he just wanted to see what the offer would be & then knock us back & then the media frenzy would continue.

He probably expected the club to pay for the media to fly to England
Which was probably the smartest thing that they did was waiving the cooling period and get a camera up and get to Haas speak on it and now it’s done and dusted. The Aussie media would obviously annoyed they didn’t get a chance to speak to him and ask questions. By the time they come back, I doubt the Haas or any player will be talking about it and will just focus on the footy ahead. It’s what the reporters deserve, vultures.

I have to ask Riccio this ... When was the last time any club of any sport anywhere in the world held a press conference to announce a player was leaving them for a rival

Kevvie was made to front a press conference. Why not Haas?

The Broncos media did a video- that's his whole point.

Last Thursday, the Broncos chose to treat footy fans as deadset halfwits with an edited in-house clip featuring Haas that was pushed out onto the club website and into the inboxes of the media.

This was Haas breaking his silence on his bombshell decision to join South Sydney for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

Like his sublime power, or that frightening speed for a big man and his engine that never runs dead, Haas crushed his assignment.

We can only assume the media team served up cream pie questions to Haas about his relationship with Broncos coach Michael Maguire. We will never know because the video was clipped without any questions.

But also **** the media

It’s just more of the same bullshit double standards by the shitney media anytime the broncos lose a player to another club. They carried on the same way after Fifita went tits up, despite the obvious monetary incentive it had to be a signal of the broncos decline. Haas leaving has to be a signal of a breakdown with the coach. Flegler & Herbie leaving had to be because the club wasn’t as attractive now the phins were in the comp. Even going back to when Wayne was at the club, they shit on him any chance they got, as soon as he left he’s a saint (pun intended). They loved seibold until he signed with us. It’s all bullshit.

Is there a more toxic sports media in world sport than what we have in Australia? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. People are moving in droves from your News Ltd panel shows to media with more a positive outlook like Levels and Kempy. The day NRL moved to a self-sustained NRL pass model to subscribe to coverage and we could do away with Kayo and Foxtel would be a happy day indeed.

Firstly, was there even an opportunity for the club to arrange this before their launch and their flight to England?

Secondly, given how quickly everything happened on Sunday afternoon, was the club ready to open itself up to media questions about this enormous and sudden development? Ripping the bandaid off is very often the best way to douse a hot media issue, but only if you know the full extent of the issue internally.. Given the magnitude of this situation and the number of moving parts, I’d be surprised if the Broncos were ready to hold a presser on this any earlier than Wednesday morning, if they had’ve been home in Brisbane as normal
