Yeah they're not trying to prove a point.
From the NRL's perspective, there was money to be made in expanding in Perth and since they received support from the WA government they were happy to grant the license. However they haven't really gone out of their way to make sure the new franchise will succeed.
It reminds me of the Seagulls in '88 where the NSWRL decided at the last minute they could grant another license and brought in a Gold Coast team. The decision made little sense and it didn't do anyone any favours.
The NRL doesn't appear to care. Just as long as they keep raking in money from television rights and ad-rates they'll continue to make changes. I think it's going to backfire and any team that gets to play Perth twice will receive an advantage.
I just hope that they use this money wisely and invest in player development. Build a strong second grade so the depth of talent is there and players can earn a living at that level.
