Perth Bears

I think the concession just highlights the lack of available talent across the competition IMO, its a pretty major red flag that the competition is not really in a position to support new team(s) at the top level.
The NRL has NEVER expanded, they've simply spread talent between more teams. It's still a East Coast sport through and through. Before Perth come in, they should have been in South Africa for a decade working with talent. There's talk of a 2nd NZ team, meanwhile the first team has had no success whatsoever (Fairytale in 2026/27 incoming). There needs to be actual benefits for teams developing players, instead of developing them for the Roosters and Storm to chew up and spit out.

He's as good as a gone.

He hasn't been that good this year but I'll always have an appreciation for him and his contribution to our 2025 success.

I think he can get back to that form. Everyone has been shit this year and a level below what they were last year. It hasn't helped him that Ezra hasn't been in form either.

Jamie Humphreys’ management informed the Bears this week he won’t be signing with them and will head back to market.

He has a 3 year contract offer sitting on the table after talks had progressed for months, The deal was expected to almost be a fait accompli.

In other news, rival CEO's have written to the NRL rejecting a proposal for the Bears to get salary cap exemptions, arguing they were of the belief the Bears would be on a level playing field to them when they entered the competition.

one NRL club chief executive said.

“We were told 18 months ago what the rules would be and we agreed to them, and we don’t believe the goalposts should be shifted now,”

I still think it’s a deliberate set-up for failure

They’ve never really given a shit about Perth, and they’ll let them fail so they can say “well you’ve had 2 chances now and both failed so no more sorry not sorry”

The NRL own them so that's their money; they won't let it fail.

The clubs are selfish, that’s why we have an independent commission.. The comp isn’t fair or even at any level, it’s not fair that Perth will have to travel soo much, it’s not fair that it’s hard for Perth to get players to move there from the east coast. There’s no point having a team in Perth if they can’t be competitive.

And blow out the shiny new best ever TV rights deal ?
Why go through that much pain to prove a point .

Did you watch Origin this year by any chance?

The NRL do not give a **** about the pain or the TV deal, it's pretty clear they only care about the gambling money at this point.

Yeah they're not trying to prove a point.

From the NRL's perspective, there was money to be made in expanding in Perth and since they received support from the WA government they were happy to grant the license. However they haven't really gone out of their way to make sure the new franchise will succeed.

It reminds me of the Seagulls in '88 where the NSWRL decided at the last minute they could grant another license and brought in a Gold Coast team. The decision made little sense and it didn't do anyone any favours.

The NRL doesn't appear to care. Just as long as they keep raking in money from television rights and ad-rates they'll continue to make changes. I think it's going to backfire and any team that gets to play Perth twice will receive an advantage.

I just hope that they use this money wisely and invest in player development. Build a strong second grade so the depth of talent is there and players can earn a living at that level.

Any team that gets to play them twice you say... so we can lock in bunnies, sharks, dogs, parra, storms, panthers... who else is an NRL pet.

I would say wahs, but I feel both teams would blow up knowing that trip was coming in both directions... probably same for cows (I'm guessing there's no direct flights from Ville to Perth??).

Dolphins can be locked in as well.... and maybe Manly.

That gets it to 8, so I'll go with that
