Resigning Henjak now is IMO perfect timing. The guy is down on self confidence and no doubt starting to question his ability. The Broncos have done the right thing in resigning him as it will take the "job" pressure off him so he can focus on getting us out of this hole. I really don't think Henjak is our problem, our defensive coaching staff (not sure if there is more then just Ryan) MUST GO!!!!!!!!!

For years the Broncos have had one of the worst defensive records of any team, constantly over at least 5 years. This has been some what hidden by a very effective attack and willingness in cover defence. I said at the beginning of the year when someone posted "what do you want from this year" that an improvement in our one on one defence was the main change I was hoping to see from Henjaks reign. Well now we know that when it rains it pours and 126 points against in 6 games is the worst in the NRL, and the defensive coach says "it doesn't matter". I beg to differ.

Get your defence in order your attack will take care of it's self. So my humble opinion is that we find out which team has the best defensive stats and we offer that coaching team what ever it takes to get them here for next season.

Ryan has spent the last 5 or 6 years either playing or coaching Rugby union, say no more

i will sign, while were at it i want a petition for the club to do what ever it takes to get Webcke back as our forwards coach...

Whilst I agree that the current defensives coaching staff is crap, it should be noted that Peter Ryan was our defensive coach in 06 when our defence was bomb proof. He deserves a lot of credit for that.

Is Ryan coaching tackle technique or is he deciding defensives patterns and structures as well.?

We have to get rid of this shoulder charge rubbish as well as have a more aggressive pattern when defending the line. Against the bunnies after getting 4-5 mtrs off our line we were sliding and going backwards.

Michaels or anybody else will not stop a big player at speed with that defensive pattern.

Speaking of forward coaches, does anyone know how long Steve Price's contract has? he might be a really smart appointment especially if he wants to come back to Queensland.

But let's not also forget in 2006 we had Webbie and Petro heading up our defence - the didn't really need coaching. His true worth (or lack therefore) is shown up with the loss of some seriously good defenders.

I think he signed up for 1 final year for next year.

Was discussing this with Coxy, we have lost since 2006; Petero, Webcke, Thorn, Berrigan, Tate, and Perry (shudder) all of which were very good defenders and were experienced. The guys we have now can tackle but we have so little experience in the team and no vocal leaders bar our fullback it is no wonder our defense looks lazy and disorganised.

The "experienced" guys we have are; Lockyer - quiet and a horrid defender both in reading and tackling, Parker - ordinary defender who holds on to the runner rather than engages them and is a 3rd man in specialist, Thaiday - can be good on his day but can also misread and fall off attackers on a bad day, Hodges - Best defender in the game on a good day but can be lazy and cumbersome on an off day. It is easy to see why we have so many issues right now defensively.

The problem is we don't have good "readers" in defence. Ryan wasn't a good reader of play himself, he'd often rush out of the line and leave a gap. So him coaching defensive strategy is a major worry IMO.

We don't want to keep recruiting so-called big hitters like Setu. We want effective defenders who read the play well.

That, IMO, is where we're missing David Stagg the most.

I think we need to do whatever we can to poach Gilmeister from the Titans, i think he is the best defensive coach in the game today

As I said, I don't think it matters who we have coaching if we don't have players who have at least a half decent ability to read the play. A defensive coach is only going to fine tune what he has available.

At the moment it seems the Broncos' players are very reactive in defence, and inevitably that makes them easy to crack. Unless you can see where the attack is planning to go, and get numbers there, it doesn't matter how good you are technically you will leak points.

If Peter Ryan is not told to pack his bags this week I will go crazy fair dinkum.....

It's an interesting question though. I think the broncos would be committed to defending the koran if he took things over.

How did that get over my head.

Cheers PWA.
