A clearly upbeat Anthony Seibold beamed at the press last night after his team exceeded expectations and successfully came within 38 points of a golden point shootout against the Sunshine Coast Storm.

“If you’re a fan and supporter you’ve got to stick solid through the poor times. The club’s had plenty of good times. This is a real challenge. One thing I know is the group I’ve got will get better. You can all see we’ve got a lot of guys at the beginning of their careers. They’ve got to get games into them. If I’m a Broncos supporter, stick solid with these guys."

“It’s challenging and they’re trying their best. They work hard at training and are learning some big lessons at the moment. It was a really good first half, the best we’ve played since the season resumption, so that’s what makes it really disappointing. If we can play like we did for 40 minutes for longer periods of time then we give ourselves a chance.

Beginning of their careers

“The difference between the two teams was the end of sets and we need to be better when things go against us. We need to be more resilient and show more grit. It’s a big score line in the end. We’re not happy in any way, shape or form. Some of these guys are learning. It’s not an excuse but we had 12 guys out tonight. It all seems to be happening at once for us at the moment. When things go wrong it goes really wrong.”

Doesn't get any better than this

Despite making only 7 runs for 40m Pies singled out Anthony Milford for praise. On why they conked out:

“The performance staff are telling me we’re fit enough, and I’ve been to enough clubs now and I know enough about training loads and so on to have a good understanding but I think the big thing is possession. This week‘s effort to last week’s effort was chalk and cheese. Any criticism that came after last week was deserved. The scoreline got away from us in the second half but I think everyone could see there was a whole heap of effort tonight. The guys came with the right attitude.”

Meanwhile, disgraced Storm coach Craig Bellamy was livid at his side for conceding a try and failing to put 50 on the board:

“I was really disappointed in our first half. The Broncos played with a lot more energy, out-enthused us and were more aggressive in the first half. Our second half was a big improvement. We spoke all week about doing what we had to do and not worrying about any noise outside our team and we didn’t really get it done in the first half. You’ve got to give the Broncos a bit of credit. We were really fortunate to be in front at halftime.”

During his time he sacked 4 coaches and is now leaving us with one that can’t.

Yep, it’s almost as if he knows next to nothing about rugby league, but rather specialises in business management...

Greg Alexander says Pies has to "support his players or it might go from bad to worse:"

“Brisbane are one of the easy beats of the competition. That’s been proven over the past eight weeks. They’re down there with the Titans and the Warriors and Bulldogs – Brisbane are in that mix this season, which is hard to take for Brisbane, but that is the reality of it. You couldn’t question the first half, it was great, it was their best half of the year. Their cohesion and balance in the spine looked really good. Just some soft tries late in this game has dampened that.”

“If you‘re (Milford) the highest paid player in the club, I want to see you put an effort in, he’s just not having a dig.”

Alexander called for more changes, namely Farnworth in for Milford, who put in a performance Corey Parker called “non-existent." Parker praised some players including Pat Carrigan and Payne Haas but said the overall performance was “just not good enough,” and that past Broncos teams did not celebrate small wins:

“Whether they‘re available or not, if you continue to roll out the same people and you get the same result, at some stage it’s going to wear you down. At some stage it’s just got to wear you down where you have to come up with something different. Some of the performances that we‘ve seen in Broncos jerseys in the past six to eight weeks haven’t been acceptable. Everyone‘s sitting at home and going the performance of the Broncos in the first half was great, and it was, they were there about, but it’s 46-8 the final score, that’s unacceptable.”

Brad Fittler said the team must be training wrong:

“They are trying hard, but you‘ve got to try together, it’s a team sport. Surely during the week they’ve got to find ways to practice working together and doing that under pressure. They don’t seem to be able to do anything under pressure. Milford did just not get involved in the game.”

Paul Gallen said fullbacks have to play both sides of the field and organise the defensive line:

“They‘ve had another 40 points put on them tonight, so something’s not going right. Unfortunately for the Broncos, it looks like another tough week of criticism is coming their way."

Incoming coach Kevin Walters said you “can‘t make change for the sake of change" and scratched his head when it came to alternatives.

Never wanted seibold hear and always thought Bennett and transition into demitrou was the right way to go, with all these kids coming through you need to build off a solid platform. We had that with Bennett and demitrou, results weren't perfect but we were waiting for the talent to come through.
Instead they completely ripped the coaching staff around them and threw in a newbie coach who could never have an idea of building a club from the bottom up.
They're is plenty of people to point fingers at but what's done is done, and now we have to ride through it. Having said all that even I can say seibold needs time , and I won't judge to harshly until we have our full team on board . Hopefully things can change because this place is painful atm.

I'd be surprised if any player will come to Brisbane on a paycut the way they did for Wayne. That said, he also left us with players who are now being paid overs. Go figure.

Maybe. He would have noticed $15M being wiped off our share market value over the last 2 yrs and Nick Politis (‘formallly’one of our biggest shareholders) selling off a large chunk as a result. Perhaps he should put a uniform back on and help keep our borders safe.
