I was just curious as to everyone's thoughts on player loaning. Do you think it would work in the NRL? They do it in the ESL, as well as several other sports. It could potentially solve some of the clubs financial problem loaning a player to another club from anywhere between a month and a year. There would be less player movement, and probably help create one-club players.

What do we all think?

I think its a great idea but in saying that, I'd hate if Darren lockyer was loaned to another club.

I think its a good idea however are clubs going to risk their players for the ones who they will probably want to swap.

I have never understood loaning. Unless you are loaning to clubs in other competitions, IMO, it seems to be a conflict of interest and I just can't see the sense in it.

Say we have Ennis fit, so we loan PJ to the Tigers. Then come Rnd 25, we are playing the Tigers, in a must win affair...where does PJ's interests lie?

I would hate to see it, unless the stipulation was to loan to clubs outside of the NRL.

But for example souths who had craig wing out injured could of loaned kimmorely and they wouldn't be coming last or 2nd last w/e.

but what incentive would there by for the sharks to loan kimmorley to the bunnies? why on earth would they?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ There not exactly going too well financially, and they almost would of got rid of him this year anyway.

Financial benefits. Plus, the Sharks hate Kimmorley. Haha

Lets pretend for a second here... say Ricky Stuart decides to loan Kimmorley to the Dogs for the rest of the year, is there anything stopping him from doing it??? Is there a law in the NRL that stops him from doing as of right now? eusa_think

Anyone know.

I don't think the NRL has loaning laws. That's why I suggested it. It works well for the ESL and the Football clubs in Europe. I don't see why it wouldn't work for us. If Brett Kimmorley was unwanted by the Sharks he could be loaned to another club for an agreed upon time frame. Once that time frame is up he would return to the Sharks unless another agreement is reached. I think if this did happen that the NRL would have to create transfer windows similar to those in Europe so that players weren't chopping and changing all years.

So, in this situation, Souths haven't done well either bringing up or buying a good halfback; instead of languishing, they can just loan from another club...thereby being competitive even though they did nothing?

You heard NSW were going to win SOO3. Surely this is less ridiculous than that...

Most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. You'd have players going back and fourth all the time, how unsettling would that be for any team. How could you build a team like that? I just don't get it.

Agreed, this would not work in league.

Would be a good idea if we had more teams or a second division, no one wants to hand opponents players they can use against them. The idea has merit but I don't think we have the depth of players or size of competition to make it worthwhile.

It does work in league. It's in the ESL!

Clintos, I think you will find that it works over there due to there being two tiers in the competition with most of the loaning going between 1st and 2nd division clubs. It is a great concept just not viable for league here in its current structure and capacity.
