NEWS Player management changing of the guard

Under Anthony Seibold's tenure, discredited player agent Isaac Moses controlled more than 9 players at the Broncos, along with the coach himself. That power base has now shifted to Chris Orr’s Pacific Sports Management, with the departure of Moses' clients Matt Lodge, Ben Te‘o, Ethan Bullemor, Alex Glenn and Tevita Pangai Jr. Isaac's cousin Stephen Moses now acts as his proxy, handling Kotoni Staggs and Jake Turpin. Coach Kevin Walters switched from Moses to Orr before ousting Seibold.

Orr‘s agency represented at least seven Broncos players this season in Payne Haas, John Asiata, David Mead, Brodie Croft, Selwyn Cobbo, Tom Flegler and Keenan Palasia, while Orr's client Jordan Pereira will join the club next year. Gold Coast-based Orr and his partner Tas Bartlett also have their mitts into the Titans handling 10 players and coach Justin Holbrook.

Payne Haas has been heavily rumoured to be seeking to ditch Orr before extending his Broncos contract.

How do you feel about player agents?

FUN FACT:

Moses was Anthony Seibolds manager and he was the most represented agent amongst our players

Orr is Kevvie's manager, now he is the most represented agent amongst our players

further to the above:

effectively Orr will have 6 players at our club next year. only 5 if Payne severs ties with him ... not too from a 30 man squad. and they're decent players as well.

in comparison Orr's agency has 10 players and a head coach at the Titans

Interesting coincidence that Kev’s only pre-season signings were managed by Orr.

Actually Capewell and Reynolds are managed by Steve Gillis. He also got rid of as many Orr players as he brought in (2 each way).

It all smells like a conflict of interest tbh. It could all be legit and above board, across the league, but I don't like it. I understand why players employ managers to some extent, but realistically it's a small comp. A handful of teams. Dealings with the club should not be via manager IMO, that should be for third party/external stuff only.

I am in the make salaries public camp as well. Shady stuff doesn't like the light.

Wouldn't it be amazing if there was a 2 month trade window every year where all the club's managers, player managers, players who are on the market and the NRL all got together in "camp" for 6-8 weeks, hashed out all the deals under the oversight of NRL Auditors being a silent party to all discussions and negotiations around trade deals, then the lot was signed, sealed and finished for another year. Some formal process and above board discussions between these player managers and all clubs might really clean up their act.

Player agents are flatout parasites. If anyone has heard Luke Lewis talk about agents on ABC Grandstand, they will understand. There isn't an agent ever that wouldn't of advised Fifita to take the roughly 50% more the Titans were offering above the Broncos.

The sooner the salaries are made public the sooner players will rely on managers less. They’ll have their own “roundabout” idea of their own worth.
less managers, less underhanded shit mid season. which derails teams bosses on building a team they want for a certain window of success and future success. Is there any other comp in the world where player salaries aren’t public?

I actually agree contract values should be published. Will make for clearer understanding and also add a bit more drama, as supporters can do their own maths.

Sounds an awful lot like the AFL trade window...and it works a treat, it really does!

Still feel that way given Neale wants to go home early regardless of trade window?

Yep absolutely (he's staying by the way). The reality is, this ridiculousness is contained to two weeks at the end of the season (there's a mid-season one but way lower key) and then it is done. It is soooooo much better than not knowing who is playing for which club each week.
