NEWS Player Ratings: Darius Boyd's Time is Up

For sure they drenched that field to turn it into a slog fest. It was an embarrassing look all round for the clubs involved, the refereeing, the bunker and the NRL.

These player ratings are so far off.
Boyd 2.0
Flegler 3.0
Shiba 2.5
Carrigan 3.5
Even then I’m prob being generous..

I just absolutely struggle to comprehend how he is constantly put at 6...Its as bad as being at 1.

Its sad, but he really isn't at the quality the team needs. He might be ok at Titans or similar - but if we want to win a premiership, he needs to be moved on.

That sounds reasonable except it's not the reality. If we had no injuries, the only difference would be Turps would be on the bench, Segy would be dropped, and Bird in for Shiba. Boyd would still be 5/8th. Macca would be hooker. So the big change would be dropping Turps for Dearden. Yet Turpin was the only of the halves that threatened the line. He was the matchwinner.

Elsewhere, I don't think we missed Gillett and Glenn last night, do you?

Yep, but those tough decisions to drop Boyd and Macca seem like a Sunday too far away.
And you know this how?

Boyd's numbers are honestly just beyond redemption.

You could pick a bloke out of the crowd and he'd be about even money to have turned in better numbers than that. It's just about as dire as it can really get when statistically speaking we're basically fronting up with 12 on the field each week.

So basically business as usual.

I think Isaako had his best game of the season despite the Cows dastardly plan to heavily soak the field. There were more dropped balls than a grade 12 school boys outing to canberra's red light district. His fend on Gela -mosby left a huge flat spot on his face, his catching of bombs looked self assured ( apart from one Comms mix up with Milf) his carry backs looked far more convincing and he was rarely pushed back in fact he made one huge run towards the end when we were struggling for metres.

His double pump to Milf for the try showed good patience so all in all I thought he has shown he is getting over the tragic news of his old man and getting back to somewhere near to last year. Hopefully that means he will continue to improve.

I thought it was right up there with his performances against the Titans and the Dogs, although I'm mindful that detractors will point out that his three best performances this year have been against teams below us on the ladder. Great to see him in open space (which we definitely don't see enough of) for our first try. That full speed charge towards the end when we were trying to work our way out, that was awesome - would love to see more of that rather than his little jink step thing before the line that he does.

I also love his energy when he's on. While he might have channeled Aaron Woods with his celebration of Turpin's try, the passion was evident, and you can see it on his face when singing the team song in the sheds. I hope we stick by him and I hope he keeps working hard to refine his game because I really think he can be a long term, winning option for us.

And you know this how?
Everything Seibold has said and done suggests he will persist with Boyd at 5/8th until at least the end of the season. Maybe, if we're lucky, he might get pushed out into the centres to replace Shiba, but we've neither seen, nor heard, any evidence of this from the coach.

This was a genuine highlight in a game full of lowlights, I cracked up at it and it sort of summed the game up perfectly.
Yep, that and TPJ cursing himself for being a bozo. The attack was like shit flung against the wall last night, but I saw some elements of team spirit that made me hopeful that a couple of changes in the spine might be all it will take to set us on the right track.

Only 2 people can sort out the Boyd issue. Seibold can man up and drop him, or Darius can call it a day.
Prediction: neither to happen this season.

He doesn't seem to be paying any attention to attacking structure. I died a bit when I saw Macca break for the line with only Flegler in support and duff what should've been a certain try. Poor bastard didn't know what to do with the football. They've clearly never practiced the most basic one-on-one moves.

Boyd still being in the team is his legacy this season. Judge him on that alone.

Well if Wayne and now Seibs couldn't get them to play to any sort of structure I'd say it's more the players' fault. However, one of those two aforementioned coaches shoulders more responsibility for the current state of the squad.

Yeah his presser after the game last night was also a little concerning, he seemed pretty happy with the performance and result, even going as far to say we deserved to win.

If he honestly was happy with that then we are farkin in a lot more trouble than we think.

He was happy with the defence, which is fair enough if we did only miss 5 tackles. That's a good effort on that front.

I’ll go against the grain here, I thought Macca was really good and has been pretty good for the last month, he is clearly working hard and making it harder and harder to drop him and honestly, isn’t that what you want players to do?

I’d still have Turps at 9 in a heartbeat but I think given there are no halves available, I’d play Macca at 6 or 7 without hesitation.
I agree: Macca almost looked like an NRL standard hooker last night. He even ran the ball a couple of times and made breaks. But he didn't compare favourably with Granville, and that's not a high benchmark. Watch how long it takes him to get the ball from the ground to the first receiver and the momentum he provides compared to any opposition hooker. Other dummy halves propel the ball in one movement. Macca needs to juggle it a bit.

Maccas passing out of dummy half was horrendous last night. He has been dishing up the same shit his whole career. I thought he served up his usual piss poor performance.

I like TPJs intensity but geez he is dumb. I mean, that flop last night, what was he thinking?

He also comes flying in as third man in a tackle with no regard to where his team mates are. I will lose my shit when he does that and ***** up turpin or hass' knee/elbow.

How Boyd and Shibasaki get anything more than a 1 or 2 is beyond me. I didn't play in the game, but i had about as much impact as Boyd did.

Against the Bulldogs sportsbet had a 6v6 most tries bet. I went on the bulldogs bloke paying $8. Seemed a pretty easy bet because Boyd wasn't gonna do anything. It was also that guys like second or third game...

He has been running more and does try but yeah, his harbour bridge passes that are not out in front of his team mates continue to stagnate any fluent movement around our ruck.

Our attacking structures have been shit for years. Milford has tried hard to become an organiser/game manager but just hasn't quite got it. Who knows, maybe Seibs is working on structures but these guys are just shit and can't follow a game plan. Bennett couldn't get them to play to a decent structure either.

I was watching the game with the old man like I usually do and we were having a whinge about how bad Macca was playing. Immediately after Macca busts through and almost puts us over for a try 😂😂 He certainly had a couple of good moments, but as usual he let himself down in the more important aspects of dummy half play.

I can't wait to have the little pit bull Turpin take control of the number 9 full time.
