There are a few players who are universally loved, like the great Darren Lockyer, but for the most part, our opinions on players as supporters are usually divided. I want to know who are some past Brisbane Broncos players that you liked, but everyone else seemed to hate, or bag out a lot/didn't rate.

I'll get us started:

Joel Clinton - Everyone gives this bloke a bad wrap because he had to follow in the footsteps of the great Petero, and Bruno gave him a fairly generous salary. Hardly Clinton's fault! His first season wasn't great, but he always gave his all, and in his second season at the Broncos, I thought he was a bloody handy player for us. Used to run at the line with real gusto - every single hit-up he took, he went as hard as a freight train. I wish our current props ran like Clinton used to a bit more often.

Tame Tupou - Sure, he had the turning circle of an ocean liner, but I used to love seeing this bloke bulldozing through basically anyone that got in his way. Dude was a tank!

Leon Bott - He was pretty useless aside from his speed, but it was great to see him back himself when the opposition showed him just a tiny amount of space. Boy was he quick! Wasn't the greatest, but he was a good egg and a boyhood Broncos fan!

Dane Carlaw. Such promise, such a disappointment despite a few memorable moments. I really rated him at the start. I also think he wasn't used as well as he could have been early in his career, but he just never got it together. It shows real class is more than any single quality but a synergy of body mind and heart not often found.

Shane Perry, whole hearted player who filled a need in our side. He had a lot more ability than he was given credit for. He actually saw a game quite well but after 2 knee recons didn't have the speed to take advantage of things he created.
I was so glad he got to win a premiership.

Yeah, agreed. I mean I think he'd suck these days, especially without Lockyer, but he was exactly what we needed in 2006, a genuine organiser, before Lockyer really developed that ability. I'm sure I'd hate him these days just like everyone else though.

Ashton Sims, yeah we lost that game in 2008 because of him but still he was a very good player that put his body on the line and gave his all in every game. He reedemed himself a bit and played a key role in the revival of 2009, he dismantled the Dragons forward pack in that semi-final win.

Special mention: Shane Perry

Ian Lacey-Always got a bad rap because of his height (5'5) but he was as tough as anyone, obviously wasn't ever a regular first grader but would do the job when Benny required him. Unfortunately, a fight on Elizabeth St led to his sacking and the end of his first grade career. I am sure he always wonders what could have been, he was always so proud to be a Bronco. Currently plays halfback for Ipswich.

Peter Wallace, without a doubt.

Joel Clinton - Everyone gives this bloke a bad wrap because he had to follow in the footsteps of the great Petero, and Bruno gave him a fairly generous salary. Hardly Clinton's fault! I agree.

People expected him to be like Shane Webcke.

At least Clinton tried his heart out in games. Something that can't be said about some current Bronco players.

Michael Ennis 2008, I just loved how he would always get under other people's skin.

MINTO!!!! If it wasn't for his sublime rugby league skills he would've continued in his career as one of the sexiest male models kicking around.

Didn't he and Carlaw have a baby?

Copely, However I think alot of people changed their opinions on him.

Agree with BroncosMan on Ashton Sims. A lot of people blame him for the 08 game but always let the likes of Clinton, Moon & even Lockyer off the hook. I reckon he was a good prospect for us and he demonstrated why in 09 when he just pulverised teams heading into the finals. I actually thought while everybody was beating themselves silly over Taylor, that Sims was making just a big an impact if not more. I don't think we ever got the best out of him either, he showed the capacity to ball-play (Round 3 09 and during the early stages of 08). Had a penchant of giving away a penalty, but I always thought he was valuable and looking back think it's a mistake Henjak preferred Dodds over him when we desperately needed some muscle up-front.

Karmichael Hunt - On the surface, he really didn't seem like much but boy could he lift during the big games. Very reliable at the back, made huge metres and knew how to put on a try. Lot of people aren't a fan of his ego and self-centred nature which is fair enough but the fact he could back it up won me over.

Nick Kenny - Seemed like everyone and their mothers hated Nick during his last year with the club. I always thought he played well above himself, particularly around 08-09 and considering the coin he was on, emerged as a very handy depth player. Put it this way, he was on half the money of Clinton yet was matching him, if not topping him for the most part.
