Not as it stands. That's what this is all about.

The base cap allowance covers the top 30, with a further allowance for players developed by the club prior to becoming NRL player. He's currently down as a development player. At any rate, he wasn't on much (enough according to him).

What's more of a worry is it looks like the club had him earmarked in the Reynolds succession. Our depth in the halves in worryingly thin. Good enough to get us through the season, hopefully, but the next generation halfback is far from clear. He was probably it.

We might need to look towards frontloading a couple of contracts, like Patty and Herbie, ahead of Reynold's retirement if we need to go to market for a marquee half (like Tommy Dearden) again.

Not sure who said that. I said no-one (<--- note well) supports Payne, but it wouldn't hurt our attack if the bloke who passes him the ball, which is usually Billy (when he's on the field) trundled along beside him after he releases it. Just in the off chance he might score off it. Or something.
