POST GAME [PREMIERS, 2025] Broncos vs Storm

Personally I hate the rule but in this day and age, how did Reece get away with leading shoulder first into his try saver on Tui?

Ref deemed it accidental as TurnCat was falling as opposed to Loiero’s on Piakura

I am currently listening to all of the predictions from the "Experts" We really didn't have a chance apparently lol.

My favourite so far has been from Justin Horo, who usually has some good takes, on the captains run with Kempy.

"I can't see a world in where Walshy is the reason that the Broncos win the game"

Admittedly, it was because he thought that Melbourne would target and contain him but that's up there as one of the all time terrible takes lol.

Just listening to Matty Johns on SEN. He mentioned that he spoke with Madge in Jan/Feb, and Madge was really concerned about their fitness. He still believed in them this year, but he was more thinking towards 2026. Our fitness can only go up from here.

How hungry are you boys? ****ing destroy the comp next year, it would be so delicious.

Horo’s a dumb ****. Mase is wasting his time with that anchor

Careless Grade A - B
Where a tackle is neither intentional nor reckless then charges should be brought if the player
nonetheless acted carelessly when making the tackle. The assessment is an objective test
based on a reasonable player. It does not matter that the person was unaware that the result
of their act/omission might happen if the reasonable player would have realised the risk and
taken steps to avoid it.
Examples of careless contact include (but are not limited to):
Player uses a flat hand whilst off balance
Ball carrier dips just before contact
• Player is stepped by opponent and contact is made whilst player is reaching
and/or off balance
The tackle involves a second tackler who contributes to a change in height of
the tackled player; in this situation player charged should be making a
legitimate tackle and be in a wrapping motion
• Initial contact is with the ball or chest of opponent, but trajectory of arm means
always likely to be contact with the head

Walsh got lucky because the bunker deemed the highlighted applied.

He didn't clench his fist / chicken wing the tackle, which worked in his favour. Coates fell to his knees as Reyno tackled him. Walsh's right arm wraps - so genuine tackle attempt.

It was grand final rules that he wasn't binned though. But as far as severity goes, by the letter of the law, Hughes shot on Piaks was worse. Stiff arm, clenched fist, jumped off the ground.

Intentional Grade D - F
Players are deemed to have intent with respect to the outcome when:
• It is their purpose to cause contact with the head or neck; or
• Although it was not their purpose they are aware that contact to the neck/head
would have occurred (or almost certainly would).
Intent does not require for the event to have been planned before or during the match and can
be formed on the spur of the moment.
Examples of factors that point to contact being intentional include but are not limited to:
• Clenched fist;
• Stiff arm
• Having made no legitimate attempt to tackle
• Player is off his feet and the direction of the tackling part of the body is always
going up

Reckless Grade B - C
Players are deemed to have acted recklessly and not intentionally if the person making the
tackle is or ought to be aware that:
• There was an obvious risk that acting or failing to act in a particular manner will
bring about that result; or
• An obvious risk that the circumstances exist or that the result will follow; or
• An obvious risk of dangers or of possible harmful results;
But nonetheless carries out such a tackle.
Example of reckless contact include but are not limited to:
• Tackling player is in control of the tackle but still makes direct contact with the
head
• The way the player enters the tackle is out of control and contact with the head
is likely
• The player has no control as he approaches the tackle
• Player’s arm is swinging and out of control

The best thing to work in our favour is the Panthers. If I'm Madge, I'm telling this squad, they've achieved something great, but they are not the kings, not by a long shot. If they want to be remembered, they need to repeat that effort. Probably even aim higher next year.

The media wanted more lenient application of rules during the finals ... Now theres complaints in the media that there was a more lenient application of rules in the GF, lol

We aren’t even playing at our best yet either. Defence is still an issue and conceding too many points. Ball control at times is still pretty poor. Loads of room for improvement which is scary for other teams.

Yeah this upcoming preseason is a concern.

4 players in the ashes tour and numerous others will be in the pacific championship.

When they finish theyll need their 6 weeks off, which means theyll return probably Jan/Feb and all but miss all the fitness and conditioning that happens.

If theyre then heading off to Vegas in Feb for an exhibition game then theres a huge risk of being underdone coming into the season.

Big risk of a premiership hangover as well... especially when you're heading into a really disruptive off season.
This is what everyone forgets that happened in 2024. We tried to catch up our fitness mid season with injuries and it ****ed us massively.

I’m really surprised Haas is playing considering the injuries are tallying up. I would’ve thought he would want to rest up , especially that back injury of his. Those kind of injuries can come and go when you least expect it.

It’s going to be an interrupted pre season and possibly a slow start to the year and to their season. I hope they don’t go Vegas, it’s the last thing we need.

Wish I’d saved the halftime stats. We were behind on pretty much every metric, but by the end of the game we had the edge pretty much everywhere. Decided to have a look at the stats we lost…

Kick return metres (171-215): Storm almost always kicked for contest (why wouldn’t they with Katoa and Coates). We did well just to hang onto the ball and take the tackle as much as we did. Our kicks were mostly deep with a few 40/20 attempts, and Paps ran well out of their end (he had the most run metres for the game).

Play the ball speed (3.39s-3.61s): No surprises against the grubs. At least Atkins pinged them early for holding us down, could have been worse.

Offloads (6-9): 4 of these were Katoa. Don’t know what to say except he’s elite.

Total passes (245-258) & Dummy passes (20-21): Who cares. Maybe these show they threw the ball around a bit more, could also show they didn’t know what they were doing in attack.

Kick refusal (46%-67%): They peppered us with a lot of good bombs. Hughes especially.

Bomb kicks (2-8): This is just a tactical difference really. We ran the ball far more often on the last, or kicked for position.

Ineffective tackles (8-12): Had a whole heap less missed tackles, so not a big issue.

Penalties conceded (7-4): The Brisbane Broncos lost the penalty count? The NRL side the Brisbane Broncos? Oh wow

HIAs (2-0): That’s footy for ya
Turns out my phone was still saved on the first half stats

Yeah, I didn't understand all the Melbourne love. It's like they totally forgot that we dusted these ***** up a few weeks back. I understand they didn't have Grant then but we were pretty dominant and was a comprehensive win.

And we were missing several players ourselves.

But the thing that everyone in the media was completely overlooking was that we were 11-2 coming into the GF and the two losses were with three key injuries to Melbourne and a controversial loss to Parramatta. We were flying but they were strong we had gotten lucky in two finals against the two best teams in the comp this year. We were always going to be the ones to beat in the GF, not the other way around.
