Noticed an interesting paragraph in the Hodges out with injury article on Foxsports

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,24495897-23214,00.html

Meanwhile, this year's World Cup will offer $2m in prizemoney for the 10 competing nations - including a $650,000 winner's cheque.

The runners-up receives $525,000.

Only an extra $125,000? Cricket had a $2m first place with $800k for second = $1.2 million difference. Hardly seems worth going the extra effort doesn't it? [icon_lol1.

It's not about the money - it's about the glory and the love of the game.

True enough but it reckon it would be a tad annoying that you only get 5k extra for being the champions.

Just give the cheque to Australia lol!

I wonder what they will do with it - does it get split evenly among the players and staff; split between them all but in different amounts depending on who they are and how significant a role they played in the win; or (my preference) does it just all go to the ARL and they use it for junior development/country league/ etc etc.

I think it's a bit of everything FB, depending on the country.

But I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that the Aussie players and coaching stafff will have something like an $8-10k bonus each if they happen to win the tournament, and it's a fair bet that the ARL would be the proud recipients of the rest.

Hopefully they can put it into things like junior development etc.

I'd say the ARL are going to stand to do pretty damn well out of the tournament as a whole, though, so the winners money probably won't be that much in comparison to everything else (particularly if players and coaching staff are getting those bonuses!)
