Queensland 2014 Line-Ups

1. Slater
2. Boyd
3. Inglis
4. Copely
5. Vidot
6. Thurston
7. DCE
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Shillington
11. T'eo
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Cronk
15. McQueen
16. Myles
17. McGuire/Gillett/Papalii

They will probably go with Chambers centre and Tate wing. Which is a bit of a risk considering that Jennings, Cordner etc will be running at him all game.

Selecting only two props is a bigger risk this year as well. With the speed of the game now Scott and Myles probably won't be able to last as many minutes. Hopefully somebody like Lawrence finds there way onto the bench.

Parker/Thaiday are capable of having spells at prop if needed, i'd rather not naturally however the option is there if players are struggling.

This isn't the side I want, but this is the side that I think will be named.

Slater
Boyd
Inglis
Hodges
Tate
Thurston
Cronk
Scott
Smith
Myles
McQueen
Thaiday
Parker

Cherry-Evans
Papalii
Gillett
McGuire / Shillington / Hannant

Papalii should really be starting, he's better than the other options for sure.

That bold line is lolworthy when McQueen is in your starting line-up...
Remember when Gillett played well in an Origin match? Nah me either. He's been pathetic in origin. Mcqueen was solid to start with, and had a beauty in the last game (I think it was the last one).

2014 Gillett is a little different to previous versions, would go well from the bench imo. Just wish we had a good centre to replace Inglis so he can finally go to fullback where he should be.

McQueens involvement is very underrated. He locks up his side of the field and puts in a lot of work. 2 things gillet doesnt do
BS. Gillett made more runs, more meters and more tackles (with none missed) than McQueen, and he did that in less time on the field.

I believe this is a make or break series for Gillett. His form in this arena has really disappointed me, I thought a player of his ilk would really shine in an arena that's all about coming up with big moments, but like a lot of players before him, his impact has been nullified by the sheer speed of the contest.

I think most would agree that he was bloody ordinary in 2012, but he did show some improvement in 2013. Building on that will be key.

I have to wonder what the thought process is behind the selections of guys like Shillington. For mine, he hasn't done anything to earn back his jersey and I feel like his time in the lime light is over.

Also, if the choice is between Cooper & Gillett, I'd be picking Gillett everyday. The only way I can see Gav coming into the side is if McQueen was injured and they needed somebody else to play his minder, otherwise he's a pretty ordinary player who I feel is coasting on his 2011-2012 form. I don't know how he's been given a free ride by Cows fans for so long, especially after his R2 performance where they considered him one of their best. I honestly thought he was ordinary.

Agree with this. Cooper is massively over rated by so called "serious RL enthusiasts"

That said, Gilett's fragile defence at times is still worrying. He's undoubtedly more talented than Gavin Cooper who is and always has been more of a honest toiler than anything else.

I know I'm biased, but Gillett was very good in SOO 2013 imo, even though his form throughout the season for the Broncos was at times ordinary.

His defense (admittedly the biggest worry) was excellent, he did a lot of work in limitted minutes, hit Gallen hard and put him on his arse, which in itself is commendation worthy, ran hard and good lines, so I really don't get where this is coming from.

I cannot fathom how anyone would want Cooper or worse, McQueen ahead of him...

Yes...because that hasn't been explained at least three times now...

Getting a little greedy calling it very good but that's a topic of semantics.

I didn't think I posed that as a question requiring an explanation, but rather that the explanations given don't convince me. It's called an opinion!

That's pretty dismissive, especially when the other side of the coin has plenty of weight behind it.

With that said...

Game 2 2013.

Next.

The difference is I'm willing to understand your side.

Apparently you can't offer the same.

I'll leave it at that.

How am I not offering the same, when I just said your opinion is as valid as mine?

I seriously cannot fathom how anyone would choose McQueen or Cooper over Gillett, I see absolutely no upside on either of them when compared to him, none!
The only thing they would have, would supposedly be their defense, but Gillett showed in the toughest arena that he can defend amongst the best, and he is incredibly more talented than both of them put together...

I was dead against the McQueen selection last year but he was pretty good last year. I think he plays on the left while most of our other back row options play the right side.
