Queensland Cup 2022

Magpies coach Karmichael Hunt:

“Being a first time coach, November 1 was stressful because I wasn’t sure how they would respond, if my message would translate the way I wanted to play the game. But they just wanted to win, they wanted to listen and I am hoping everyone from this experience, whether they played one game or more, that they have taken something away with them. For the most part I have enjoyed this coaching experience, as stressful as it is.’’
“Blake Mozer has a future in the game at the highest level. Looking at today’s performance Kevvie has added him to his full time squad for a good reason. He reads the game as good as some of the best minds in the game, is bold and courageous and takes the game on when he needs to. I am looking forward to seeing how he goes in the years to come.’’

The QRL has really cooked the goose by hiding this game away on a proprietary streaming platform.

I think you have me confused with someone else.

This isn't the ISC by the way.

Yeah you're a stout supporter of the ISC. You literally bagged the QRL five seconds before saying you have never done it- and wasn't even right.

Stick to stupid articles and cryptic comments champ.

You're talking complete tosh.

QPlus.tv was only launched a couple of months ago. It's a pay service. So no, I'm not so invested in the junior and regional leagues to pay for it. I'm not a fan of all these splintered pay services, regardless of who's behind them. That goes for cricket as well. I didn't know it hosted free games. I thought it was all subscription. My mistake.

As for not being a "supporter" of the ISC. Well, of course not. The ISC is defunct. Even I know that.

I've been watching QLD rugby league since the 70's when it was on the ABC every Sunday evening. And I saw Mal play his first game for the Magpies at the ground. You can get fucked with your weird snobbiness. It's misplaced.

I was gutted when I noticed most QRL games have been pulled from Kayo and are no through the Q plus or whatever. I’m sure it’s worthwhile to them in some way but all it had probably done is exclude me from the audience. I know a lot of people that started taking interest in Q Cup when it was on Kayo.

Seems like a short sighted approach to growing fandom. Now any chance of developing causal viewership and converting them into fans or eyeballs for sponsors through Kayo has died.

I would’ve watched every Magpie game this season If it were on Kayo. Also a missed opportunity to cash in on Dolphin curiosity.

There still is a game a week on Kayo. The MM Cup Final today was also on it.

I don't think it's ideal but then again it's better than last year where clubs weren't allowed to stream their games anymore. At least you have the opportunity not just to watch all the QCup games but also the Colts, U/18s and U/16s.

Whatever hope they had of growing their audience basically went out the window when Channel 9 re-negotiated their deal and got out of broadcasting it.

I think fans conflate their issues with the QCup and how the Broncos choose to use it. I actually like what the Cowboys are doing where they're sending their more experienced players to Mackay and Cairns while letting their younger up and comers play together for the Blackhawks. It appears to be paying dividends as well, the form of Townsville is one of the big stories coming out of QCup.

I really hope this is something Ikin is looking at, I presume it's in his sphere of influence? It makes perfect sense that the young guys coming through are playing together in the same team - get that familiarity with each other and how they play, before getting to NRL. Make sure there's overlap with the NRL team, let them to know the top team's calls, etc.

Surely this is common sense? Am I missing something?

I only watch the Broncos, and at most a couple of other games a week these days. I'm really only interested in the Broncos now, a little bit the Broncos past (like how Tommy, Xavier, TPJ etc are going), but even more the Broncos future.

So if I'm only watching 2 games, the other one is just as likely to check out the emerging/rehabilitating stars who might elevate us out of the ashes of serial failure.

So 1 1910 is right insofar as I'm not compiling an encyclopedic knowledge of the QLD rugby league landscape, but I should be the type of casual follower the QRL is keen to target. If I lived in Brisbane it might even lure me to drop into the odd match to watch the likes of Mam and Mozer. They could do with a few more voices of encouragement.

I think we have lost our minds here a little- one game is still on every week on Kayo and 9.

QRL paid for it to be on ABC and 9 for 20 years it cost them money, they are making some of that money back now and I don't see an issue with that.

I would rather the QRL get my money than Kayo.

Which was my original point and it turns out 100% accurate- it is still on Kayo and 9 and you're obviously not watching it so what more can they do?

Was this match really on channel 9? Honest answers only.

There is a game every week on 9 Now. Look at the draw- it's there every week.

Two yesterday on Kayo.
I know some games are on Channel 9. I occasionally watch them.

What about my actual question: was this match on Channel 9?

I love how these argument evolve- How dare you say I don't watch it- I watch every game every week.

I didn't know it was on 9 and Kayo.

No one has ever said they watch every game every week, most of us only bother watching the broncos affiliated games.

You seriously act like you are the only one who knows anything about qcup and juniors

I have to admit though 1 1910 is as close to our ‘David Middleton’ of qcup as you can get. He is bhq’s go to member when we want info on anything relating to qcup or the juniors game.
