Queensland Cup 2022

I love how these argument evolve- How dare you say I don't watch it- I watch every game every week.

I didn't know it was on 9 and Kayo.
There's only one person being antsy about this subject.

None of us pretend to have anything more than a fleeting interest in the lower grades. There's maybe only 10 of us on this entire board who check in now and again.

I happen to be one of them. And yet, you're up me.

Watching the Blackhawks South's GF replay on Kayo now.

Mozer easily the best , but few schoolboy errors still.

Grey ain't Mam

He's a smart kid

He's a smart kid
He's also grown up supporting the Broncos which is also a huge bonus when it comes to his playing future. He does also sound very level headed.

I see the Warriors have managed to 'snatch' a young half away from the Roosters now. They're making a habit of it. If anyone so much as utters a single 'sux' when saying meaning to say 'six' they should be banned from any further talk with Blake.

Mam played two Colts games last year post Meninga Cup before his surprise debut against the Capras. He would have played more if Souths didn't have Milford pull out.

Mozer is in better form than Mam was 12 months ago but the problem with Mozer at least is his defending in the middle.

I don't think ISC is an option yet for either of them- Bears this week advantage would be it's at Pizzy so it would be a home game for them but it's a TV game so if it goes well it puts pressure on them and if it goes badly it puts pressure on them.

Is that just a matter of him being 18 ?

Size too, 40 tackles in the middle against men when you're 18 and 70kg is hard work. Like Mam a situation might just present itself- Mam went with them to Rocky and got a game and if he's around something might come up and you can get him 20 minutes and then put him back in the garage.

Broncos were working on a plan for post Saturday.

Blake Mozer not play Q-cup or Hatings Deerings Colts this weekend. Hopefully, just a rest because if the Broncos plan is to not play him in either whilst he develops at training I'd be pretty worried. Something I think we need to be worried about is his pathway through Magpies with the captain of both Q-cup and Colts being the 9. Not really great entry ability into these 2 teams.

I think 1910 mentioned that he's likely to be given a break before going to Colts... I think we might've done similar with some of our other young guns coming through.

Might've been a Fifita, Haas, or Coates, where they only ended up playing a few games of colts at the end of the year (possibly after their schooling had finished??... I'm not sure if Mozer has finished school or not, but being 18 he possibly has??). After they finish this year they then get moved into ISC.

In regards to Souths... Paix has been coming up through there and was starting so Mozer being in that squad shouldn't be too much of an issue. In ISC I'd say he's likely to be lined up as impact off the bench when he first gets into ISC.

Strength and conditioning will be important for Mozer... he needs some more size if he's going to be defending in the middle, but you don't necessarily want to bring him into the gym and add a ton of weight to him straight away, because it could take away some of his strength before he even knows his game.

I think because of that they'll want him in Colts to see how he goes against some older players... get him into preseason against the top 30 and see how he goes there against bigger players again. Get some kg's onto him and bring him through ISC off the bench.

You'd think he's probably at least late 2024 before he gets a debut, maybe even mid-late 2025 (pending how he goes in ISC), and when the development is needing to be that slow (mainly for middle defence) we need to be making sure we lock him down, so he is actually given time to develop properly.

Don’t disagree at all with him playing Colts this year but I resoundingly disagree with him having some rest and playing the backend of the season. Like wtf are we doing wasting half a season of footy instead of developing arguably our most important player for the future. He gets a rest or 2 max and he is playing again. No if, buts or maybe’s.

To be honest I am only sending him to colts to be on the safe side and make sure he slowly (not in time necessarily just making sure he doesn’t skip this stage of his career) works up through the ranks confidently. Personally I think he would have to be the best player in colts by a mile or two. Quite honestly if he has a month of dominating in that comp probably not much point leaving him there and instead he goes to cup and plays off the bench.

I agree he needs to be at a high level defensively but he is a lot bigger than you think and I would love to know where this 70kg figure is coming from because I can guarantee you he weighs more than that. Nonetheless a gym program will need to be in place to improve that area. Some time against Men in cup will also be integral to his development in defence.

Late 2024 might be when he gets a starting role but I think you will find Mozer is way further along in his development than most would think. I get that we are cautious about developing players into the NRL but Mozer is a gem who isn’t that far off now let alone 2025. Just think it’s stupid to wait that long cause you’re (the fan base not just you in particular) to scared. I can tell you something I am even surer about Mozer sure as shit ain’t sticking around here till 2025 to play NRL when he shits on everyone of our talents in the last almost forever (apart from maybe Payne) who have almost all debuted at 18/19. At the age of 20 almost 21 if he hasn’t played he will be so far gone and it is just naive to think otherwise.

I wouldn't read anything into team list Tuesday when it comes to QCup.

I doubt Mozer will play this weekend, but when he does debut I doubt it will be announced beforehand. I honestly don't know why they bother anymore. The teams change so dramatically across both state league it seems like they take the piss. It just seems like a byproduct of a bygone era when Big League was still in print.

I'm sure a few of the MM boys will be pushing for spots in the coming weeks and getting those reps in. I don't think he necessarily has to play out the rest of the season. If the Broncos feel like he's being overloaded they can choose to rest him on certain weeks but I'd just love to see the Broncos do more with that 18-21 age group.

It really concerned me when Scanlen revealed that they only had a handful of players in that age bracket at the club. Sure they were the creme de la creme but I feel they could use their resources to help develop 30 or so players. If you can snag two or three players out of it and even if they're only depth like Pearson or Opacic it's worth it's weight in gold, especially if you can snag a Gillett out of it.

I couldn't even fathom what a Broncos NYC squad would look like or how it would even stack up.

It's fairly obvious our recruiting needs a very large overhaul. When you think about it the exampple you used - Gillo was not so much identified and developed we more or less fell over him.

Gillett is a weird story.

Brisbane originally missed him, but since he came through the Dolphins Colts team when Hook happened to be the QCup coach he had a rap on him. He drafted him into the Broncos NYC team, only for Gillett to reject the club and instead play for the Wests Panthers Colts team instead.

Hook told him he'd thrown his career away, but then Gillo had a stand-out season at Norths and had a few clubs after him. In the end he chose the Broncos because he chose his pets over going down to Sydney.

So it seemed like one of those cases where he only came into the Broncos periphery because they had a 20s team but that almost backfired completely until cooler heads prevailed.

Yeh it's weird and wonderful story-line. And like I said we never really scouted him from an early age and developed him.
