Q-CUP Queensland Cup 2023

The public spat with Kevvie at training: did anyone actually see that first hand?
Yea, my inside source at the Broncos said there was no spat. Paix realised he wasn't playing great and offered to go back to cup to work on his game. Paix, Kevvie and Billy then all had a group hug.

You almost had me until the second sentence. I have no idea about the "spat" btw, it's just a rumour that I'm seeing everywhere.

I think Cult Cult knows all about it (he had the mail first). Something about a blow up at training.

It's all over Reddit and Twitter. Could also be bullshit. He didn't deserve to be dropped any more than Billy.

Team of the week.

9. Blake Mozer – Souths Logan Magpies (C)

In a week where the hookers really shone, young gun Mozer made quite the statement for the Magpies. The Brisbane Broncos affiliate - and Queensland Under 19 rake - scored a try and set up another two to help guide Souths Logan back to the top of the Hostplus Cup ladder. In a strong all-round performance, Mozer also ran for 55 metres - averaging 11 metres per run - and had three tackle breaks, two line break assists, one line break and 36 tackles with only one miss in a 63-minute effort. Elsewhere, recent NRL debutant Harrison Graham was strong for the Dolphins, also scoring a try and making 29 tackles.

8. Ben Te Kura – Souths Logan Magpies

A day before he was named in the Queensland Under 19 team, Te Kura was a standout for Souths Logan in their victory over Western Clydesdales. The towering forward not only scored a try, but notched up 180 run metres through the middle and had four tackle breaks, two offloads, one line break and one line break assist, as well as 16 tackles.

4. Jesse Arthars – Souths Logan Magpies

The Brisbane Broncos centre made his second Cup appearance of the year count on Sunday, starring for Souths Logan as they charged their way back to the top of the competition ladder. Arthars earned his third try in two games and set up another two against the Western Clydesdales. He also ran for 164 metres, had eight tackle breaks, three line breaks and one line break assist. Elsewhere, usual suspects in Brisbane's Solomona Faataape and PNG's Rodrick Tai continued to shine for their respective teams.

Great bounce back from Souths after being dealt a lesson last week by Norths. Te Kura ball playing at the line was great to see and Mozer attacking for himself and for Arthars was terrific. That's a good team that can get flogged and re-group and go again.

It's telling that Mozer ran for 55m- well 30m of that was in the try so he just patiently waited for his shot and then took it.

Mozer seems like he's gaining confidence each week and is tracking nicely towards the NRL.

Would be nice to see Kev blood him once he gets passed his U/19 rep commitments.

A month ago, I would have said no but the last month his smartness is coming through. 5/6 tries have come in the last six games.

I would think he would regress again in NRL and go back to just passing and tackling but that's part of it.

Mozer's try should be in the top 5 QRL plays. It's a thing of hooker beauty.

I think the Roosters game would be the ideal game to bring Mozer in, it's in Brisbane and is the lowest quality team we will face for the rest of the season.

The Gold Coast Titans are disappointed to learn that the Burleigh Bears have chosen to align with an out of region NRL club in 2024.

The Titans and Bears have had a long affiliation, with the Titans investing in the club significantly over many years and by providing NRL quality players to support Burleigh’s Queensland Cup campaigns.

After meeting with the club earlier in the week and presenting to the chair, executive and coach, the Titans were informed that the Bears would move in a different direction next year.

The Titans are committed to the Gold Coast, developing local junior talent and producing pathways that lead to future NRL and NRLW stars representing our region.

We remain committed to developing the game across the Coast and competing in the Queensland Cup through the Tweed Seagulls.

The club will honour its commitment to the Burleigh Bears for the remainder of the year including the NRL players taking part in the match with PNG Hunters this weekend.

Broncos? That would seem a big win for us if so.
