Ok Couriermail reports that Henjak/Cullen stated that some of the players that were let go were to resign Hunt, which now has obviously fallen under. So they basically admitted they are looking forward a couple of years. So - assuming the Hunt deal fails which I believe will, lets look for a big name signing. I know we've never been big name buyers but I think the time is ripe, especially with all the players we have lost.

I have to admit, this signing of Lockyer for two years. This is a big, big call isn't it?

Love to have Anthony Minichello. Hopefully Brian Smith gives him the arse and we can pick him up cheap. But more than him we need a prop or two. I'd love to see what Jamie Peacock or James Graham could do in the NRL.

Eww Mini.

He's very evasive, almost impossible to put down and looks like he's possibly coated in lacquer.

Not that any of the above is a bad thing but he will most likely be a failure in a Brisbane jersey though. Apart from Wallace, all our imports of late have turned out to be duds as soon as they pull on the strip. Complete nuffies.

Brisbane's jerseys musn't be very comfortable or something. Darn Nike conspiring against the side.

What about Folau... and Clinton is going quite good this year

Wallace = so so IMO. Other than his first 3 games of both seasons he's been with us, overall he has been very average.

I thought Wallace played really well last week against Souths just didn't have the support

Agreed

Wallace has a tough job and I admit I have been harsh on him this season I think well expect more of him but he is playing behind a losing pack 90% of the time.. His major downfall is his kicking game IMO..

Wallace has been too inconsistent. The only import we've had that's been consistently good from the start was Folau, though I think he can do SO much more. All he is is a bomb catcher right now. needs to develop a decent running game.

Clinton has indeed recovered from a slow start to be one of the best forwards we have.

But I don't think it's just the imports that have generally been below par in recent years, it's affected the whole team at various stages. The only time in the past 5 years where the majority of the team has hit form at the same time was the run into the end of 2006. The result was obvious.

Compare it to the earlier premiership years where, apart from mini slumps of 3-4 weeks, the vast majority of players maintained form for the full season.

Me too, his kicking game was excellent and his running game was as good as it gets.

Actually, how about the form we were showing in the latter of 08? WB himself said it was a premiership lost - he normally doesn't say things like that.

As much as it hurt, I wonder why we were so nervous in that melbourne game from about the 50minute mark onwards... I mean the last 20 mins of a game is Broncos' territory, we own that shite. Just shows how different the Broncos HAVE become IMO.

In the end we probably didn't deserve to win that game via crucial and nervous errors on the night from everyone across the park - but take away that game and we had some pretty damn good performance didn't we?

Looking back - the team on paper... it was as good as it gets in the modern game IMO. Everyone was in relative form as well. Hmmmmm.....

Yes the form was much better at end of 2008, true. As for what happened in that semi, well, I won't heap all the blame on it, but a little incident at a nightclub a week before had an impact on the mentality of the players.

I remember thinking on the night that some of the players were trying too hard, especially guys like Lockyer. He was forcing passes that weren't necessary. I think the pressure was multifaceted - Bennett leaving, so many players leaving, plus all the off field dramas and wanting to make a statement about the solidarity of the club - in the end it got over the top of the Broncos and they capitulated when it counted.

So while stopping short of blaming K, Sam and Darius for the loss of last year's premiership, that did not help one little bit.

All a moot point though IMO. Manly would've flogged us in the GF.

I think Graham would be great. I remember thinking this a while ago, but i think he has a few years left on his current contract. How old is peacock?

Sam Burgess is off contract next year. Or is it the year after that?

OK, if the above is true and what we've also heard about negotiations with Stagg, Ennis and Boyd last year is true, then there's no question, Cullen must be fired immediately.

Let's see.

Ennis, Boyd and Stagg are told last year that they can exercise their options for 2009, but there's nothing available for 2010 and beyond so they can find other clubs if they wish.

The reason for this is the money set aside for upgrading Hunt's deal in 2010+.

They did what anyone would do, shop around, and found themselves longer term deals at other clubs. Beauty.

Fast forward to early 2009, Hunt rejects the Broncos' best offer.
Result? We now have lost Ennis, Hunt, Stagg and Boyd?!?!

Honestly if that's not the worst bit of management I've ever seen in my life then I haven't paid enough attention to Denis Fitzgerald's career.

Why on EARTH would you tell them that? Why wouldn't you just say "we want to take up your option for 2009 and we'll discuss 2010+ during the season"?

EXACTLY.

At first I understood the players going but IF, and I stress IF those reports are close to the mark (obviosuly they are because Henjak has said it HIMSELF) then WOW... its almost laughable?

What would have made them so sure they could keep Hunt? Esp with Locky off contract as well? really puzzling stuff!!!

It is now clear than ever the void those players have left - we've got raw kids running around and they are getting lapped.

Geez.

Worst thing about it all? The doggie supporters are laughing their heads off and we hate each other in the first place - but they've got one over us over this. Especially right now when we are getting whooped. I hope to GOD the dragons can get them in the GF. It will be the WORST dogs GF victory if they win with our ex players. Don't think I'll be able to stomach that one.

It is Laughable.

I recall Bruno saying he was thinking of the players best interest when they granted the releases.
WTF? What about the clubs best interest?

Also add Eastwood to that list. and WTF didnt we pick him back up when hi UK deal fell through? Why not pull out the sympathy card and say 'well Greg, we done you a favour in letting you go to chase the $$ overseas but now that has fallen through how about playing for Broncos in 09 and take it from there? NOOOO bloody Bruno has to say 'no we are not interested'.
