Representative Weekend

Why not at least put the Islanders and u20 origin up here in Brissy? All we get is AFL and A-League, nice work nrl. Milford at 6 will be good to watch and Oates will kill other boys.

Hate to break it to you Sproj, but Oates has been ruled out due to his hammy.

Fellow Bronco, Ajuma Adams has been called into the squad.

The week is just a mess really.

There's too much shady business going on. Obviously since the clubs pay the bulk of the players salaries, they're very reluctant to avail their players to these representative games and as a result, all we're reading in the media is that such and such has been ruled out for City/Country or the Origin game.

Personally, I think City/Country is on it's last legs. It really doesn't do anybody any favours and it just generates too much negative publicity.

I never understood the timing of the U/20s Origin game. Wouldn't it make more sense to make it an U/20s ANZAC game and bump the Origin game to a pre-Origin game in favour of one of the 16s or 18s? Plus, it's hard to build a lot of interest for it when it's been exclusively played out in Sydney's west. Wouldn't it make sense to play it up here one year at Skilled?

I thought Kent's comments were very ordinary regarding Samoa/Fiji. It's probably the only game of the weekend that has any upside, yet here we have a 'respected' journo tearing it down. Makes little sense for me.

I think it would be better if they had the U20's as a curtain raiser to the opening Origin game. Or perhaps expand it to a 3 game series and have them all as curtain raisers for all Origin games.

Glad it wasn't just me, I wasn't completely disgusted by the comments, they had some merit, but still, with the current state of the international game we should have every journalist raving about how good the game will be, as a showcase to potentially discover some more diamonds in the rough (Radradra, Uate, etc)

But yeah, this whole weekend is so horribly organised, can't wait until it is completely scrapped from the calender.

First of all, if I was creating the State of Origin schedule I would be doing it like this -

Week 1 - 3 NRL Games + 1 State of Origin (1 Friday, 2 Saturday, Origin Sunday Night)
Week 2 - 3 NRL Games + 1 State of Origin (1 Friday, 2 Saturday, Origin Sunday Night)
Week 3 - 2 NRL Games + 1 State of Origin (1 Friday, 1 Saturday, Origin Sunday Night)

No teams will be able to complain about the scheduling as each team will play 1 game and have 2 weeks of rest during the period. There will be 1 round of NRL games & the SoO series completed over 3 weekends. I think this might also improve the level of football in the second half of the season as teams will have plenty of time to rest up and get some good training in during this 3 week period, but that's just my opinion.

What did he say?

Can't find a direct quote but basically that nobody cares about a nothing game and he won't bother watching it.

Samoa v Fiji looks a cracking game, sorry Paul Kent

That article shows what he said about the game.

He cannot be more wrong. Fans are looking forward to this game more then the Australia vs NZ game.

I know I'm one of those people and the majority of people on social media are looking forward to that game more, and the U20's Origin.

Not many people really care about the test match because of how much of a mismatch it is, but they will tune because it's FTA and because they want to watch Rugby League.

I'm just grateful there's rugby league on to be honest. They could just as easily make it a bye weekend for everyone.

Independent, representative weekends, scrap the bye rounds. Problem solved. Includes....

Origin, U20's Origin, NSW cup Vs QCUP, Samoa/Tonga/PNG/Fiji etc.

Would increase the season by 1 week with no teams bitching about playing for points minus their best players.

On the C V C game, it's been a joke for a while IMO. If they want it to survive, the NSW coach needs to show a genuine interest in it and they seriously need to stop players pulling out through "injury". I don't have the answer to how you do that, but Daley coming out and commenting on it would be a good start.

And if Origin is on Sundays the government should give us public holidays on the Monday. It's only fair.

Despite being largely pointless games, I will probably watch most of them.

Origin 20's s should be a bit of fun, and a chance to see some of the young guns go round (particularly keen to see Molo, etc).

Fiji vs Samoa will be entertaining, no doubt. Anything with international implications is a good thing.

City Country I'll probably only have one eye on. Budget game with minimal legitimacy, but NSWankers smashing each other is good for a laugh.

The "Anzac Test" is pretty much a foregone conclusion, but who am I kidding? I'll be watching, because it's Friday night league...

I find rep weekend to be quite boring, no one gives a shit about c grade city country and the australia nz test will be a fizzer when australia wins by 30.

the only game i'm half interested in watching is the u20 soo

weekend can't come and go soon enough for mine.

The irony is that Paul Kent's comments apply more to City Country and Aus v NZ than Samoa v Fiji.

Aus v NZ is a joke game that makes a mockery of international league (IMO).

Samoa v Fiji is actually the opposite, and probably the only game of the weekend I'll watch.

Yeah agreed. There may not be many NRL 'stars' on show, but I'll enjoy watching them and the up-and-comers put their bodies on the line for their country. Their genuine prize of a spot in the end of year tournament is far more honourable than the irrelevance of city/country bragging rights. Or the one-sided test that's been one-way for 16 years. You don't see many players pulling out 'injured' from the Samoa or Fiji teams either.
