Ryan James, who has been carrying a broken finger for the last few weeks, will retire from the NRL at the end of this season, but hasn't given up on playing future rugby league altogether:
“I don’t know yet. I’ve had a lot of time off the last couple of years. We’ll see how the body holds up. I wouldn’t mind doing a stint overseas at some stage but I’ve also got a masters degree to finish."
“I’m taking every week as it comes. If I get to play NRL it’s a bonus. Hopefully I can hold my spot now. I’ve played one final in 13 years and it was against the Broncos. To get out there and play some finals footy would be good. I just want to make sure I can help the boys and do my job.”
“Kevvie gave me the tap on the shoulder the day before the game and it was great to get out there and play. Hopefully I can hold my spot now. It was an easy job for me when you’re starting with Payne and ‘Fleg.' They’re younger and can run harder so my job is to clean up in defence."
“I want to give it the best I can and leave a good mark on the club. I want to show the young fellas what it takes to play week-in, week-out. I obviously haven’t played every week but hopefully my impact off the field has rubbed off on some of the boys.”

I feel for these players that almost never play finals. Brooks has gone like 240+ games without a single finals appearance - I don’t so much feel for him but imagine being his team mates. No wonder Nofu almost cried at the thought of playing with the storm

Please enjoy this factoid: in that final against us, Ryan notched up his 12th try of the season, the most for a prop in the history of the game.

Does he actually say he's retiring or is that an assumption?

The cleaner upper er .
I noticed that . He was quite often the 3 man in legs tackler . Demanding work for a guy his size .

Former Broncos scout Brian “Pinky’’ Edwards, who's now with the Dolphins, spotted Ezra Mam as an 11 year at the the state championships at Runaway Bay. Other notches on his board include Josh Papalii (Canberra), Anthony Milford (Canberra), David Fifita (Broncos), Tesi Niu (Broncos), Selwyn Cobbo (Broncos) and Mam’s cousins, Edrick and Brenko Lee:

“Ezra stood out at that carnival. He was footy smart and had the skill. He was ahead of a lot of kids in that age group. He was different. He obviously was special and had plenty of x -factor about him that you can’t coach. They are hard to find now. Ezra was at the top of the hit list. You come up with six to eight names each year and he was on that list straight away. He was Player of the Carnival at the Australian under 15 championships."
“He was always a very good young man to speak with. He’d look you in the eye and even as a 12-year-old he could hold a conversation with an adult.’ His uncle came to me and said all these schools are after him, what do I do? I said he was clearly enjoying it at Ambrose Treacy, and they do play rugby league. I said “he is happy there, so stay there’’ which is what he did. Ezra was a leader within the school, and was later on the welfare committee.’’
“Andrew Peach, who until recently was principal of Marsden SHS which is the biggest high school in Australia, helped him into a youth support course and at the same time he worked at Marsden SHS in the DEADLY Choices unit. This move by Mr Peach helped get him back focused.’’
“Halfway through 2021 the opportunity to play Queensland Cup came up and it was what he needed,. He needed to be challenged. And his football has not looked back since then.’ It put it beyond doubt for everyone that he was a special talent and he went on to win Queensland Cup rookie of the year."

He's not great at picking worth ethic or attitude, clearly.

Would add Fuller and Jeremiah Simbiken to the list, both have been killing it in Cup. Both got hat tricks today.

Thought Simbiken was like 30, but he's only 22 been pretty fantastic this year and would cover for the loss of Hoskin in the SR. 10 trys from 13 games.

Fuller has been great for years, just has that too small tag on him, we're getting another fullback who gets bumped off easy so it would be like for like. 12 trys from 15 games.

Fuller train and trial at the phins, I think.

I’d actually like it if Lee Briers brought John Bateman and Jai Fields with him from Wigan. Starting second row + spine depth
