I also noticed in this game that luai has this habit of interfering with tacklers when they are forcing his team mates back in the tackle.

He gets in there and attempts to pull defenders off to stop backward momentum.
He does it all the time and should be penalised for it.

There was a tackle where JFH was pulling Staggs off inside the 10m and the tackle wasn't even completed.

They're entitled fuckwits that are allowed to get away with whatever they want, even though they're blatant penalties or at worst should be called time off by the ref so we can get our markers back in place after being interfered with by the opposition

NRL has done it to itself - just like teams encrouching inside the 10 and living there all night. The ref will pull them up a few times but won't let it get lopsided so they start getting away with it.

Refs need to be told the rules are the fucking rules, enforce them no matter how many penalties get given away.

And FFS stop the third man in shit by calling held faster.

Great win and first class defense , Maam has good speed and great footwork but attack is clunky, too many forwards getting the ball late in tackle count, maam a bit lost setting up players.

Dummy Half has something to answer for there - a few times tonight the ball went the wrong way or to a flat footed forward on tackle 4/5.

I thought the Panthers attack was different tonight, is that possibly because they were missing Cirraldo's coaching?
Think it was more to do with two missing Fijians

More like missing the second best hooker in the comp
Yup, they went sideways far too often and made mistakes when the opportunities they expected to be there, were not.

Blessing in disguise we caught them this early, IMHO.

I suspect they will get themselves together as the year goes on and we probably won’t see them again until finals time I hope…

Hopefully that won't be a challenge... the players shouldn't be needing more motivation to go out and win... they should be fucking up for it and wanting to belt the fuckers

I’ve been wondering for some time how the players would react to the heartbreak fade out last year, it seems to have out a fuse, it might turn out to be short term pain for long term gain with this side. A really hard lesson to learn about how a season can nosedive.

Also, a lot of credit left right and centre but to me, the biggest thing tonight by far was that we’ve been coached to play the modern game. I hate it but glad they’ve finally done it with slow downs, giving away penalties, six agains etc and staying down etc to allow the line to reset. This sadly is the way of the NRL and we needed to wake up and join it.

Give those Panthers fans a break mate... they're just not used to their team having to abide by the same rules as everyone else
They’re probably also not used to knocking the ball on over the line 3 times in the same game too.

Lets not get too carried away. We won by a field goal…

A hell of a confidence builder to knock off a juggernaut in their home confines. I thought Penrith were terrific. They ran for 2000 mtrs, had 60% territory and had enough opportunities to win three games.

But Brisbane were in their face all night long and displayed the type of unrelenting D not seen since the WB eras. If they can maintain this sort of attitude and keep their injury toll to moderate levels, then they will win more games than they lose.

Herbie was fantastic tonight. Easily the best centre in the club and is going to be a massive loss. In fact, Flegs and Palasia were both impressive off the bench. Three big holes to fill for next year.

You have to love a win like that. A tough, gritty defensive win in the wet. A win you can build a season on, a defensive standard to pride yourself on.

3,2,1 is very hard to pick in a game like tonight. So will give a few special mentions instead. Jensen, Hass and Pat, it is a great starting middle and Jensen is the unsung hero for me. I just love what he does, it's all solid no nonsense work and I am so happy he resigned.

Reynolds and Mam are a great combo, Reynolds brings the smarts and craft. Mam brings the wam bam thankyou Mam exuberance.

Paix looked a lot better tonight, was crafty and defended well.

Kev deserves a call out also. It may be only one game in but you can see improvement year on year. Even in the presser his own performance has gone up a gear. Good work Kev.

All in all it was exactly the type of win we needed at this time of the year. We didn't look like we have shot out of the gates and there is obviously a lot still to work on. But you need these gritty character building wins early in a season.

Up the Mighty BRONCOS!!!

Cobbo was a joke tonight. If Walsh isn’t fit he can’t be 1 next week.

They are still getting away with so much shit though.

Cleary cannot give away a penalty or a 6 again unless it's utterly batant.

Luai when playing dummy half does one handed pick-ups and that ball bobbled twice tonight, nothing said.

Leading in with the knees twice tonight not pulled up.

Capewell was tripped by Crighton, nothing said.

When we got the ball back in the second half when Katoni dived on it then got a cramp - in the lead up to that, Arthurs tackled without the ball much?

The near miss try that went upstairs for Penrith just before half time, he claims he might have scored - but "didn't touch the ball" Things that make you go hmm... He wouldn't have appealed at all if he didn't get a finger on it.

Penrith players getting up and lifting our defenders over their backs as they get up and appealing.

As @BroncsFan said - their other players pulling our defenders off before the tackle is finished.

So hard done by they were. /s
