When Staggs was collected high the (Independent) doctor ordered him from the field. So we lost one of our gun attacking weapons for 10 minutes. It seems the Riff were the sole benefactors in this instance.

If you stay on the ground pretending to be knocked out they will make you come off for a HIA .
[Staggs ]
Capewell got hit in the throat . Stayed down trying to milk a penalty and got 10 mins HIA .

Rules is rules .

Concerning to me that Palasia was first on the field off the bench and Taupau wasn't introduced until the second half.

Hopefully Palasia isn't above him in the pecking order

Palasia came on to replace Staggs .
Capewell went to right centre ? Palasia left edge ? I think ...

That's not just this year... they've been doing it for years... so do the storm, etc.

Storm have been taking markers out of play since Slater was playing... they always walk off the mark or step to the side, etc.

It's a pet hate of mine, because the attackers are not allowed to touch the defenders... it's the same as those 'driving' penalties when a player scores a try, but it's found that an attacker is touching a defender and therefore interfering and no try.

Yet here we are in 2023 where support players are basically tackling defenders when they're trying to complete a tackle.

Just watch teams when an outside back starts getting driven backwards, the Luai's of the world basically start tackling the defenders to stop the momentum.

Twice I saw Luai toss Billy off a tackled Penrith player .
I was expecting penalties for interfering with defenders or some aggression from Billy .But ,nope nothin .

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is during Critchons try Penriths whole bench were on the field, isn't that some kinda of fine?
Yup I saw this too, they had extra players on the field therefore the try shouldn't have been given, no? I know it had no bearing on the play, but it's just fucking typical. The rules are the rules, yet they so often seemingly don't apply to Penrith.

The garbage in the ruck has to stop. Melbourne on Friday and Penrith lastnight have both gone up a gear in the 'getting in the way of the defenders' stakes. Again, it's a very simple rule - the attackers can not interfere with the defenders. Any pulling of the defenders back over/into the ruck should be penalised there on the spot. Repeated infringements should be met with a binning. It has to stop.

Our best at dummy half too. Look at this cracking service to Payne. 1:02:55 in.

And the ragdoll on Riki. 1:07:20 in:

I don`t think Paix and Billy have too much to fear .
Very lucky it wasn`t called fwd .

The Riki removal was an old head seeing the sneaky shit Penrith were pulling with trying to leave defenders on the ground at the ruck . Not on my watch says Marty .

Hass , Tapau , Jensen , Carrigan , Flegler . Is a pretty handy middle rotation . No ?

I can't believe I'd never noticed this until last night tbh.

Also saw .
Not any advantage . But def against the rules . Only 13 players on the field .

The worst one was JFH dragging Staggs out of a tackle inside our 10m before it was even completed.

Staggs was about to fight him off and finish the tackle, but knew he had to get back to his edge

Yeah he did for that one and I couldn't really tell what the rotation was after Staggs came back on to get a feel of whether Palasia is preferred over Taupau.

Cows game will give a better idea of whose where on the middle rotation

The JFH play the ball is really giving me the shits

I noticed that to. Good footy smarts by big Marty to drag Riki out of the ruck before the Penrith player could try to milk a penalty out of it.

I like it. Stay down and try to milk a penalty and you get a HIA. Hopefully this minimises this diving tactic that has crept into the game.

What I noticed was that we landed on top of the tackle or "won the tackle" more frequently than last year.

A player wasn't left on the ground or out of position when the ball was played as much.

Yea, Filter was complaining about us slowing down the ruck in commentary lol (similar to his whinging in origin).

Manly seem to have implemented a new form of diving which I hope doesn't creep into the game. E.g. Turbo's dive again the Bulldogs.

I said during the trials that two things that were a focus were off-loads and the last 10 minutes.

Broncos allowed 293 off-loads last season- the worst in the comp- that's 12 a game and it has been below that 12 three games in a row now. Two trials and round one.

Penrith aren't a massive offload team but it's still an improvement. If you got it down by three a game that's 72 down from last season and will be a lot fewer double tackles or pressure on your line.

The last 10 minutes has been an issue, Broncos have worked on playing through. 100 points in the last 10 minutes last year cost them dearly. It's not losing your mind under fatigue.

I know Penrith scored in the last 10 but they kept them score-less for 69 minutes. Panthers had 42 more runs at the Broncos and only made four more tackle breaks.

O'Farrell has been great this off season and I think I can see improvements.
