POST GAME [Round 1, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

An arrogant and impatient performance. Lost all the effort areas. Kick returns, kick chase, stupid end to all our sets. Walsh and Ezra pushing passes unnecessarily. We didn't want to do the work and got the result we deserved. When I finally spotted cobbo, I wished I hadn't.

If you want to remove complacency from a playing group - do it now.

As long as Reynolds plays for us, our premiership window remains open.

But 2 key cogs in the GF machine were missing (Herbs & Flegs) and so we arent exactly "adding" to last years squad. We need to take a step back in order to make two forward.

You could see in this game the yardage both of those guys provided us out of trouble.

Staggs and Cobbo are on notice here. You boys have to dig deep this year and help out.

Im confident by the later rounds we have worked all this out and them team has gelled and with luck playing much better.

Roosters "should" be top 4 material this year. As long as Sammy by stays fit...

Left side defensive issues confirmed. Missed tackles:

Piakura- missed 2 (Made 1) in the limited time he was there
Carrigan- missed 5.
Ezra- missed 10.
Cobbo- missed 5 (only made 6).

With cobbo, if you are not having to do much defence, there is no reason for him not to be rucking it out like herbie did last year.

I think whats the most disappointing for me is that we probably looked the worst of the four teams out of the games.

Defence was solid but our attack was poor.
Field size plays a small part to how we play but we knew about this for months.
Carrigan to back row isn't the fix we need another option.
Our bench provided no impact if the commentators didn't say Baker played for the roosters I wouldn't have even known he got on the field.
Herbie and Oates runs from our own end were missed.
Reynolds was off.
Plenty of improvement in us and we have 2 weeks to fix it

Basically outplayed across the park but still stayed in the contest. Still contain that defensive steel but looked clueless attack wise. The Piakura TKO certainly was a game changer.

I'm not too worried. Losing four key players from your starting 17 requires a bit of an adjustment and these things take time. They still have a very formidable outfit and will taste victory on a regular basis again this year.

Defence was solid af tonight. Carrigan on an edge was totally fine, defended well apart from the last try. That was after two dropped balls in our own end. The margins are small in NRL, losing BRer within 5 minutes is about all that is needed to make the margins smaller.

The field tonight was very restrictive to sweeping plays that Walsh loves.

On the positive, arthars, CJ, Mariner, smoothy and walters all solid. I thought bringing smoothy on as a roaming lock in the second half was pretty brilliant from kevy. Can't score tries without the football which ultimately cost us the game.

Move onto next game you bunch of sooks!

To much was not in our favour this game and we didn’t adapt to anything on the run. We were always the more lateral side so that didn’t help. Piakura being ruled out was nearly the worst thing that could have happened though he was just to crucial to the makeup of the side and straightening the attack we did everything to wide all game and it took out the outside men and limited walshy and Mams threat.

We really desperately need to see something from Selwyn at centre that isn’t against a Reggie’s cows side or we may need to make an early change. You can’t have no metres from your outside backs.

Roosters did get a penalty, but it wasn't related to the reported incident. The incident goes on report to be investigated post game.
