POST GAME [Round 1, 2025] Broncos vs Roosters

Well, I can’t see how Ezra gets his spot back?
That reyno/hunt 1 2 punch was a thing of beauty. Hunts defence was also a clear upgrade on Mam.

And i wasn’t a fan of the signing.
I think Ezra will be 14 either he or Hunt goes to a ball playing Lock role. Or Hunt goes to 9 for stint.

Personally i would go Ezra to lock and just let him roam and follow everything. He has ample time to get his defence right for the transition.

If the two old boys keep this going it's going to be impossible to separate them. Also how things unfold at 9 will determine whether Ez even gets back in the team. If Paix is still running on all cylinders and Mozer or Billy are also providing it would be difficult to change anything.

There were times when Reece was trying too hard to make something happened.

It was like he was uncomfortable not being the main point of attack and was like I need to do something... I want to get in on this.

The play down the blindside to set up his try, was a little bit forced, because he double pumped and put Shiba under a little bit of pressure, but rorters weren't awake to it and a simple catch and pass put Jesse away.

I think there was an emphasis for Reece to run last night... I've never seen him take so many kick returns and then he was doing some work in yardage as well.

He also put the pass away for the most part and just ran... when he was fitting into the backline like a cog it was humming, and he will start to learn to be comfortable with that, which will make us even more dangerous... and if Reece is allowed to sit off the ball and fit in where needed he might be able to focus on supporting through the middle as well.

I thought there were some really good signs for Reece, buy still things to fix up... mainly kick defusal when contested... but for the most part he was dominating when he just let Bhunt and Reynolds put him in position
Yes, he didn't have a flashy game, well not by his standards, but he did the job of a fullback. More importantly, he didn't do anything massively stupid. I can forgive the dudded try. Shit happens.

Yes, I thought Madge took Paix off a bit early. If he were gassed, he didn't look it. Unless Mam's defence is found seriously wanting, I don't see any competition from Tyson or Billy.

Yeah I thought the same. But it may just be a tactical decision to not burn him out early in the season.

Potentially building up his minutes for later in the year. Panthers run an 80min hooker right?

Tactically it would probably make more sense for us to have the option of Ezras speed and ability coming off the bench. Especially if we are looking to keep the footy in play and promote support play. He is perfect for it.

Paix isn't a runner though so as the Roosters got tired and loose Paix won't be the guy you want. He engages and brings runners forward but doesn't run himself.

It's always been the weakness with Paix- he has guile out of dummy half but doesn't run. I have commented before that even at Cup he would not run, and I thought going back to Cup I would run 10 times a game to try and impress.

Last night, the Broncos ran 10 times from DH for the game and six of those were Walters and Shibasaki. But it's interesting that as loose as the Roosters were through the middle Paix didn't see an opportunity.

If he continues to pass and use guile, he will be perfect for the start of game but then you will need someone else to run.

Barrett is very much a hooker's pass attacking coach.

That's a continuation of what I saw in the Dogs trial (first 40 anyway). We just look up for it defensively and even the fringe players are standing out.

Mam should be worried if we keep it up.

lol piakura.

Top of the table motherfuckers. 😂

Hunt is at the peak of his powers. It’s like we’ve added a dce calibre half to our spine.
It made a huge difference having a genuine half at five-eighth.

Ezra is great on his day, but comparing him to Hunt is like chalk and cheese.

Mam doesn't have the kicking game, the ball playing or the intelligence that Hunt has.

It's understandable, seeing as Hunt has been around for a long time. I hope Hunt can take Mam under his wing and teach him a thing or two about the more boring parts of being a half.

The best example was Paix short ball to Gos for an easy try... Having a backline set wide, the dummy half look long then play short to a second rower running a perfectly timed, nice line close to the try line for an easy 4 pointer

Carrigan received the ball from Paix .
He then put Gos over between the defenders .

I've been banging on for years about us needing spark from the bench. Ezra would bring that in spades.

Trying not to get too carried away. Honestly I couldn't see much of a difference between how we played last night and 2023. We scored mostly off kicks. We had better discipline, ball control and Defence compared to 2024.

I think the Roosters were pretty terrible, similar to the teams we played in the trials. I will try and save my excitement for when we play a decent team that is playing well.
