Our forwards couldn’t make any metres.
Is that because our hooker couldn’t get them to the advantage line, or was it that the panthers line speed was exceptional?

The NRL needs to stop putting these heavyweight matches on in round 1.
Everyone is itching for footy, it sells regardless.

They wasted a great spectacle when both teams are up and running after a few weeks.

Penrith were just as bad at times with ball control. Difference was ours were unforced. Penrith made mistakes under our pressure.

My scores for the game
Defence - 8/10
Attack - 0/10
Discipline - 0/10

Take our lessons and move on. Just dissapointed because WCC had the exactly same lessons.
Call the cops...it must be the teacher

I can sort of let it slide after not playing any trials. But next week is our third game, they’ve gotta start getting it together.

I know it's the first match of the season and all, but gee whiz, Reyno and Hunt definitely look a year older.

Also, Gosiewski is not NRL standard. I know Piakura is injured, but fair dinkum surely we can dig up someone else to start in the backrow?

Anyway, typical early season performance. Hopefully we're a bit sharper next week. Couldn't fault the effort.

Think Penrith just on crack week 1. Ivan got em fit and firing start of season. Storm and Penrith getting top 4 this year pretty easily I think just too consistent. Broncs will get better as the year goes on and be the dark horse tail end of season similar to last year

Defence was actually pretty bloody good, I wouldn't be too concerned at all. It's the same shit as last year. If Reece is quiet we lose, alot of dropped ball as well in this game ****ed our momentum.

It seems that most NRL half-backs start aging in dog years when they get near 35 and ARey is no exception. He looks at least a year past it to me. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we played out best footy last year when he was off the field. We’ve got no spark at all around half-back and hooker so beating top 4 sides will be a challenge. Walters is a big loss - he’s become a very good 14. Mozer could well make a significant difference this year but how Madge fits ARey, Hunt, Walters and Mozer in the team will be interesting. An Arey injury which is highly likely might be a blessing. Hard to see us as a premiership threat unless we get some spark around half-back and hooker.

We seriously can't judge anything properly from an attack point of view until we hold the ball. The effort last night was there for everyone to see. We should have been flogged by 40 with the dropped ball and field position we coughed up. I can't remember being this deflated after a loss. Not because we lost, and I wasn't expecting an 8 plus out of 10 performance, but I wasn't expecting a 2 either.

I liked the scramble, the online D, our fitness is there and we created 2 scoring opportunities for our edge but the last pass was tough both times.
Agree with ezra starting, we need some speed and a running threat to help Walsh.

Most infuriating part of the night was having to get up to let ppl past.
Getting to the game late because buying drinks. Getting back from half time late because drinks. Having to piss during the game because drinks. Buying food during the game so they don't have to line up.
I must have had to stand up close to 10 times a half and the same thing happened in front of me.

The reliance on Reece was a bit concerning last night given the rest of the spine two parts of **** all.

Panthers focussed all their attention on Reece and the team could barely get him the ball in any space... if the opposition is focussing all their attention on Reece then the rest of the team need to step up and their only answer was Bhunt kicking early any time he took a double take... ****ing infuriating

Every team is gonna focus on Walsh all year long. They need to become more of a system team rather than rely on his brilliance. The thing that stood out to me about the Grand Final review show was that nothing came from our halves. The only time Reynolds and Hunt were mentioned was when they made an error and then when they got injured. They have to be some sort of threat and capable of capitalising on the attention Walsh is gonna get, but do they have that in them anymore?

Let’s face it, Penrith is still the benchmark of this competition in terms of performance consistency & polish..

The Broncos showed last year that on that one day they were good enough to slay the giant.. but Penrith’s sustained level of consistency is still what this Broncos group should be aspiring to..

They’d just about put a glass eye to sleep this Penrith side, but they have been so good for so long at what they do and seemingly continue to be..

Whoever in marketing thought of the pregame giant horseshoe gimmick and removal of the Let’s Go Broncos song should also go to the glue factory.

It sounds insane and a bit outlandish. And I'm certainly not putting too much on a 1st round performance, but I do wonder whether maybe duffy is more of a chance than 1st thought and better fit for us now.

His boot is HUGE. Not much else but we dont need much else.

I agree, they all need a huge boot up the arse. Last night's showing was pathetic in terms of execution. Xman, Riki, and Staggs all put into holes with the try line beckoning all three dropped their bundle.

A simple pass to Paddy- put down. A simple pass from Haas to Hunt - put down. A simple pass to the Karp from Shiba - not even put down straight out into touch. Twice we were carried into touch with the ball- I mean FFS boys!

Let's not forget Staggs charging down a kick after panthers lost like 30m on a last tackle play

World Club Challenge needs to be scrapped or the schedule changed to after the GF.

It disrupted our pre-season.
Between the International stuff at the tail end of last year, christmas and then off to england, a batch of our players haven't really had a solid pre-season at all.

I called it right from the off last year when Donuts was pushing for us to make it work, for us to go over to England and squeeze it in before Vegas.

We had the perfect get out of jail free card and instead of giving the team at least 2 uninterrupted months of pre-season, they wasted that for an exhibition match.
