Round 1 Discussion

LoL at Craig Bellamy.. In his column in the Australian today he writes "obviously GI left after the 2010 salary cap situation and it still irks me a little bit that we lost him, especially when you see some of the salary cap issues over the last two or three (years) at other clubs."

Craig, please....

He really is kidding himself. Why are all the best coaches so damn hard to like.

I tipped Penrith for the early game today. I have a feeling I am going to regret that. My feeling when making that tip was the Raiders having Sam Williams at halfback.

Ha well then. Raiders to win now.

Hmmm, it appears as if I didn't tip the Bulldogs in the BHQ comp but tipped them basically everywhere else.

FWIW I expect the Raiders, Warriors and Cowboys to get up.

Good option here from Penrith to take the two. Their attack was looking clunky, so you may as well take the points while they're on offer.

4 gone

Penrith 2 lead Raiders 0

Really poor stuff from Penrith so far.

They've had the Raiders on the ropes on a few occasions but the support game is non-existent and the defence, particularly from Campbell-Gillard was really lazy.

Canberra are beginning to play some footy, I expect a try soon.

There you go, try to Edrick Lee.

Canberra always had the numbers, but Waqa Blake did really well to hold Papalii before the line, before the big fella popped an offload. I have no idea what the Penrith defence was doing. They actually looked to have recovered nicely but they all just stood around and watched it happened. Trent Merrin in particular was in no man's land.

Raiders 6-2 after 11.

Shannon Boyd is terribly overrated by Canberra fans

Campbell-Gillard ruined a prime opportunity for the Panthers to hit back there.

It's been a real unhappy start for him.

Too easy for Blake Austin.

Raiders rolling forward, had the numbers, took on Isaah Yeo and it was all too easy.

It's been a nice start to for him.

Raiders 12
Panthers 2

19 gone.

Penrith hit back through Trent Merrin.

You can put that try down to Will Smith who's easily been the Panthers most dangerous player on the field. He ran straight past Austin and had ideas to go the entire way until he was brought down by Wighton for the second time.

Weight of possession finally took it's toll and Segs summed up the situation nicely, finding Merrin with a nice cut-out pass near the posts.

Raiders 12
Panthers 8

23 gone.
