PRE-GAME Round 12 - Broncos vs Storm

Round 2 2009 was really fun. Not only was it the last time that we beat Melbourne at Suncorp, the bulldogs were docked their 2 competition points for having 14 on the field during their game winning try V Penrith.

This footage shows what frustrates me about hass. He should be steaming onto that ball! No player there would have stopped him from scoring if he was running at full tilt.
Turps taking a step might have thrown Haas' timing out... Taking that step allows the defence to get off their line and up in his face.

Actually looking at the play TPJ runs under Haas, which holds him up and allows the defence to get up in his face.

It was definitely on for Haas as well and the play is exactly what we need to be doing more of. It has TPJ and Haas running crash lines next to each other. It basically becomes a pick your poison for the defence because if Turps picks the right pass then good fucking luck trying to stop either of them with a stretched defensive line.

In the still shot below the eels defence looks way out of shape and is stretched at the ruck (looks like it's Reed, Brown? and then Oppa). I think the issue is actually them trying to be too cute with the play.

TPJ is running a decoy from the outside in to try and suck Brown in and get Haas on his outside shoulder with only Opa left to try and tackle him., but do we really need to try that hard to create even more space for Haas??

The worse thing about the play they ran is at no point did Turps consider TPJ an option... once Turps takes the step TPJ is out of the play and is one less player for the defence to worry about.

I think if TPJ and Haas are running direct lines on either side of Brown... he is absolutely fucked.

Even at the point of picking up the ball Turps has the eels stretched... if Haas doesn't get held up by TPJ coming under Turps can just fire the ball to him and there is absolutely no way that a half and a center are stopping Haas that close to the line.

That is exactly what storm do with NAS, and is what they did last year with Tino so often... when you have a big strong mobile middle forward you don't need to be all that cute... as soon as you are within 5m and you can manage to get the ruck defence stretched fire it to whichever one has the match up advantage and they won't be stopped.

A fiver?!?
Don’t go too crazy mate!
Check out the Panthers paying $1.01 !!!!!! That, I've never seen before. The Dogs are paying over $20 in a two horse race. Imagine if the Panthers had one in the bin, or maybe two. When you're expected to win....I reckon if you wanted a value bet you could take, say 25 start, pick your own line and maybe make some coin.

I'll have a sneaky couple of bucks on a few things for sure. Look what happened to the Roosters FFS. Crazy odds

As much as it is incredibly unlikely, with these new rules and at $21, why wouldn’t you put $10 on the Dogs.

Yes. The new rules could theoretically make it a much closer match. That's why I suggested ( not recommended 😁 ) picking your own line. According to Sportsbet if you take 18.5 start you can get $1.98 in the Broncos Melbourne match.
18 start in a two horse race and even money, nice.
However, when you look at the Dogs Panthers game things are super juicy.
To get even money you get 33.5 start. It pays $2.02 . Very nice.

Under the new rules literally anything can happen and like I say, if the Panthers get one in the bin and the Dogs throw it around combined with your start, could be good money. I don't see any way here the Dogs win outright though, even at 21 to 1.

I need a good slap around the head to get me out of the train of thought that we have a chance to win this one.

Logic would tell you that coming off the back of a solid win and playing against one of the weaker Melbourne storm teams you'll ever see this should be a good opportunity for us.

However anyone who knows the bronco's knows how this one plays out. We lose a guy to HIA in the first 5 mins. Lose a guy to a ridiculous sin bin 5 mins later. Storm score a try from a kick bouncing off both uprights then the cross bar and landing in their lap. Brisbane have a try disallowed because of foul play 4 tackles ago. Brisbane go down 50-0.

Much like bronco's agaisnt cowboys, the script is and always has been written for broncos against the storm.

If we had Lodge and Gamble I think we are a real chance given last week and Melbourne’s injuries. I think we lose a lot of direction and leadership without them.

Even I doubt Lodges contribution can be replicated. Milford could copy Gamble though. It is his last game in Broncos colours you'd have to think but I suppose injuries and suspensions could keep the door ajar.

If we do win, could the win be taken seriously? Could we really think of it as a turning point for the club?

They are missing 3/4 of their spine which happen to be their best players and one of their most consistent forwards.
