PRE-GAME Round 12 - Warriors vs Broncos

I read an article recently that said Newcastle defeated the Knights :lostit:
Oh my god. Why am I not more surprised?

Edit: I realised that it's probably because the Knights defeat themselves a lot lately.

That's a wrap from Red Hill. Expect Ben Hunt, Benji Marshall, Jaydn Su'A, George Fai, Jai Arrow and Jonus Pearson to come into the 17 for the six Origin players. Hunt and Marshall will combine in the halves with Kodi Nikorima on the bench. There is still some doubt over Andrew McCullough, with Travis Waddell on standby. James Roberts also finished early with what appeared to be an ankle injury.

Marshall reportedly played poorly for Redcliffe last week and now he may start in the NRL side over Nikorima who has been good for the NRL side over the last 5 weeks ...

completely confused

Mind games maybe!

It would be disappointing for knik and I'm a little confused by it. I would've thought you'd go knik in the 6 Benji on the bench and if macca needs a break move Benji into 6 with knik to dummy half.

All I can think is Bennett must be after the experience that Marshall brings and knik has been successful as the super sub. Whereas Benji shit the bed in his previous attempt off the bench.

Benji will need a game here and there to find whether he's worth keeping, even for bottom dollar. If Broncos are serious about a win though, they have to keep Kodi in the halves.

Just throwing the question out there but what happens if JT is proven fit by say Friday and Milford is not required. Bennett can't name him in the squad today, but obviously would if he weren't named in the qld team.

Under the new rules he won’t be able to pick outside of the 21 named today regardless of whether Milf becomes available.

Is this perhaps the reason behind Bennett putting the ultimatum on Kevvie?

Would broncos be given a special exemption to pick him from outside the 21 man squad?? I know long shot with us being the broncos and all.

It's an odd situation, but I'm not sure the NRL really thought about this kind of situation when going with the 21 man squad.

A special exemption for the Broncos? Good luck with that! :whatwouldjareddo:

Doesn't the 18th man only apply if someone comes down with 'injury' or some such?

Contradicting what I said earlier, Wayne mentioned in his presser before the Tigers game that Hunt, Arrow & Pangai would be right to go against the Warriors.

We'll find out later today, but if that's the case I'm far more confident of the Broncos chances.

Will be good to see Pangz (or Pangai Jr as I like to call him) back, he's been killing it off the bench before getting injured.

Hopefully Roberts will be ok.

I'd say the warriors will come out hard early and then fall away, I think this week will be more important than ever not to let them get away to an early lead. If we hold them I think we will score enough points in the back end of each half to come away with a win. We definitely don't want to be chasing points this week.

lol think you got the name and the nickname round the wrong way mate.

Don't Hunt and Kodi both primarily play on the right? I can see the logic in picking Benji and easing Niko back into a bench role, especially with a cloud over Macca. It'd be nice to see what Benji's got in the halves at least, confirm whether or not he's worth keeping around next year.

If Niko gets benched for a guy leaving in a few months and a guy who's in his mid 30's playing poorly then I think we can rule him out as an option for the 7 jumper next season, Wayne clearly doesn't rate him / has someone else on the way.

The only reason i would not start him in the 6 against the Warriors is if Macca was out and we needed to start him at hooker

Bennett isn't coaching for 2018 at this point, he sees 2017 as a prime opportunity and believes a Milford/Hunt partnership holds more promise than a Milford/Nikorima combo.

If Marshall is selected, I believe it would be for the reasons Battler suggested.
