POST GAME Round 14 - Broncos vs Raiders

Rapana and Leilua are damaging ball runners, full stop, both have defensive problems and poor temperament.

Meh, they are pussies against quality defence ... apart from which, what's the good to the team of being " damaging ball runners" when, "both have defensive problems and poor temperament."?

Oates showed how important he is for us, even when he isn't even fully fit he still made 150 metres.

I think the raiders went out there to try and belt us out of the game. A lot of semi legal high shots and crusher tackles. Luckily, while they seemed to be concentrating on that shit there were some fairly easy yards up the middlle for our hard running forward pack, Good to see Ricky Stuart so angry and frustrated on the sideline.

Hard to judge how good we are going from that game. Can't see any of the other top teams making so many lame brain errors as the raiders did last night .

Nice to bank the two points though.
We didn't play one last night... they were horrible, both in attack and defense.
Their tries were:
- A fluke (Austin)
- Thaiday's marker inattention/laziness
- An unawarded penalty, as the marker was clearly pushed out of the way to allow Baptiste to sneak in for his second.

And while we did well to capitalise on their errors, Boyd and Parker will never score easier tries!

Hunt's kicking was quite good last night, although his impact on the game was pretty small. I thought Milford was the better half.

Moose playing his position and Gillett hunting anything that moves with a non Broncos jersey make such a massive difference to the team. Parker returning to his best helped too, as well as Blair's wake up call.

I feel for Glenn, whom was having his best game of the season imo, and of course Kahu, who seems cursed on the left centre position. Maybe he should play right centre and move Roberts left? Hopefully they recover quickly! (does anyone know more about the extent of their injuries?)

I liked how Gillett was chasing those kicks.

Hardly saw Roberts chase them, it was Gillett leading the chase and hitting hard. It's what I like to see.

He has improved so much since Bennett came to the club, I hope we never lose him.

Bennett seems to think a month max so it doesn't sound like they were too bad.

Apparently Kahu hasn't torn his pec, just ligament damage. I imagine we'll have a clearer picture on Monday.

Strained pectoral muscle according to 7 news, but no official timeline yet for him, Reed or Glenn.

Gillett is probably the best second rower in the game now.

Brisbane prop Josh McGuire says his brief move to hooker in the Broncos' Round 13 loss to the New Zealand Warriors inspired him to one of the best performances of his career.

McGuire ran 216 metres from 25 runs in Brisbane's eight-point win over the Raiders on Thursday night, but it was his lacklustre performance the week before that fuelled his desire to get the better of a big Canberra pack.

Coach Wayne Bennett moved McGuire to hooker in a late change that backfired for the Broncos, with New Zealand running all over a Brisbane side without usual rake Andrew McCullough.

McGuire struggled in the position, running for just 73 metres, and he says he felt like he needed to give back to his teammates after a below par performance.

"Obviously last week I had to play hooker so I felt a bit bad always having to pass the ball and having someone else do all the hard work," McGuire said.

"I had a word to Wayne [Bennett] and I just wanted to get in there and run hard for the boys.

"Canberra have a big forward pack so we knew we had to stick it to them in the middle.

"We had a real emphasis on working fast up the middle and it worked. Myself and Corey Parker really worked hard on our speed so it was a good game plan and I really enjoyed it."

It was this hard work up the middle that McGuire missed most when he was moved to hooker.

Although a strange move by Bennett, it was not the first time McGuire had started at rake, with the 26-year-old playing at hooker for Samoa throughout the 2014 Four Nations.

But don’t expect him to be back in the position anytime soon, with the Queensland forward admitting that he prefers to start at prop.

"I've played a bit of hooker before and I think Travis Waddell came off a short turnaround in the Intrust Super Cup so we thought it was a good idea to put me there for the first 25 minutes to defend in the middle," he said.

"The plan was to bring Kodi [Nikorima] on after that period but obviously the game didn't go to plan.

"We were under the pump from the get go and didn't have any ball. It's something that we tried and it didn't work.

"To be honest I'd rather be playing front row. In saying that, I'll always go where the team needs me and that's what footy is about."

What a guy. He wasn't even that bad at hooker, we just actually missed him at prop too much.
