POST GAME [Round 15, 2022] Broncos vs Storm

This is a Broncos fan forum though. If you want unbiased straight down the line information, buy the Courier Mail, you’re guaranteed to get that there…
One of the best things about Kevvie is he won't be goaded by journalists into feeding fans this puerile ref blaming shit. He's an adult and a true sportsman. We should take his lead.

I side with the coach on this one. If he has genuine issues with officialdom the place to discuss it is behind closed doors with them.

The flick pass from Meaney and the second one from Olam are both forward out of the hands. Clear as day. I just heard Meaney laugh as he called it “flat” on Triple M. No physics there McHunt, if you mean conservation of momentum.
Combine this with the grab on Riki in the PTB, Munster taking it dead, Flegler being called offside as he backs away from the play after Kotoni’s little kick, the lack of 6 agains for Melbourne’s slowing tactics and their constant walking off the mark and it wasn’t an even contest. The first try is from a 6 again against Haas that was much faster than the majority of Melbourne’s roll-offs or tangled, so if that was the early marker for the ruck where were our 6 agains.
Sure we made some rookie errors and showed some poor discipline to be offside a few times but that sort of officiating is a farce.
Walking off the mark is a blight on the game. Call them back every time and it wil stop quick-smart.
You have to commend the effort from the team. Take out the try from the Cobbo error off the grubber and call one of those passes forward and it’s 20 all in an away game against No. 2 in the comp.

Gotta give our management a big wrap for our squad to actually look the way it did last night. To have our top 3 halves options out and still be able to field a guy with 150+ games experience is huge. Having our first choice centre replaced with a former origin and grand final winner as well. We've got a good ballance in our top 30.

On the game as a whole, i hope the guys are disappointed not to get the win but also take plenty of positives in their effort. I'd like to think the coach post game briefing was about going back to training next week and just taking everything we do up one more level. If we go up one more level then we compete with storm/panthers.

Regarding Turpin, he just refuses to engage the markers. Billy doesn't do it brilliantly but he can pick a good play the ball and when to exploit the markers. It's almost like turpin has been instructed not to look up and just shovel the ball.

Finally gotta say Mam is starting to really look like he belongs in the NRL. Looks calm, makes his tackles and has some quality touches of the ball.

Honestly, we didn't lose because of the Refs, but they sure as shit didn't do us any favors.
Taking shots at your fellow Bronco supporters for being frustrated at some terrible calls is a bit of a numpty move though.

There is no denying Gee was ordinary last night, thats just facts.

I thought Mam backing up Walters to score that try was a great effort. Popped out of nowhere from the opposite side of the field. That break looked like being shutdown for all money.

I really liked Kevvie's response in the presser when asked about the forward passes. He just shut it down and sometimes you get them for you, sometimes you don't. He also said his team was good but not great and singled out some guys for praise, Roberts too. To me, he is a coach that gets it now, love the bloke. He didn't complain about the many decisions that went against us and while happy with the effort under the circumstances, did not use the circumstances as a get out clause. You can see why the players love to play for him.

The table wipe was back !

On the play before their First try in the second half, there was also a forward pass out of dummy half to Munster who then did a massively blatant forward pass to tui kamikawackingwomanman.

But it's Melbourne, the dirt sticks.

It was a wipe , but a circular wipe .
Not the old wipe it off the table type of wipe .

Now not a body language expert , but I reckon the brush and wipe off represents . Poor execution by the team need to start again . The circular wipe / rub . Means we are improved but not quite there yet . No need for big change .

Upon reflection should we return to the 2 ref system for future games and or the finals? Or should gee go back to reading 7 news during the week?

If you're passing to a player in front of you, it's a forward pass. It has nothing to do with the path of the ball relative to a line on the ground. Balls passed along a backline often look like forward passes. Sometimes they are, but they have to be blatant for us to pick them from the TV.
If the ball from the hands travels in a forward directon it is a forward pass regardless of where the player receiving the pass is at the time that it exits the hand. S/he can come from behind the player passing it but if the ball travels forward from the hands it is a forward pass.

When was the last time we scored 4 tries against the storm?

It was great work from both walters and mam.

Mam just shows up around the ball, which is something he was doing well in Qcup last year (I haven't seen much Qcup this year). It is an instinct some players just have (I.e. lockyer, slater, papenhuyzen etc.).

But what is over looked is how well billy positioned mam and engaged the cover defence. He didnt panic, slowed just enough to let mam catch up and commit some of the cover defenders and delivered a perfectly timed pass.

Yeh i wrapped that play earlier today. It was a joy to watch, and it looks every bit as good on replay too 😁. I also mentioned that I thought Mam's development was coming on leaps and bounds.
