A cursory glance at play the ball speeds shows Haas is actually pretty good in that department.

It's funny that you complain about people using statistics to judge a player's merits and then incorrectly use a different set to support your own argument.

Teams attack us up the middle because our line speed is garbage and we often have lazy/tired markers. None of that is relevant to Haas' abilities in attack though.

I guess without stats showing average times put on back and average play the ball speed it will be simply an 'eye test'.

Fans can often have blind homerism.

He has incredible athletic ability but he should not be playing the amount of minutes and he is developing bad habits on both sides of the ball which are hurting the team right now.

Where are the meters coming from this week mate
???

Not a single prop because I don't expect any prop to play 80 minutes. Two props may play 40 minutes and make 100 each which gets you the 200.

I guess we will see.

I really need a weekend off the grog, so this loss is going to hurt even more. :(

Because a metre more than the next guy doesn't matter if you get put on your back or have a slow play the ball. The setup for the next player is poor and reduces there metres and puts the teams set back. It is selfish pushing for an extra metre when you should be hitting your stomach and playing it fast.

People are just too dumb to understand the position and what is actually important. They look at base statistics and listen to stupid commentators.

There is a reason teams are continuously attacking our middle all game long.

Mr Smarty pants, if he is always put on his arse why is he second in the comp on Post contact meters, keep in mind we are getting smashed every game so there is large chunks of the game we don't have the ball compared to every other team in the competition even with that massive handicap he is objectively the 2nd best middle forward in the competition at the minimum.

He is a great athlete and could be the best if coached to do the little things that more veteran players do.

With respect to post contact metres - they don't really matter unless its a line break and/or ends up with a fast play the ball.
If you are getting hit in defence then take slow laboured steps forward and then get put down or on your back, you have essentially let the opposing team reset for the next tackle putting the next hit up in a bad position.

If he was catching the ball at the advantage line, not flat footed, and hitting the defensive line at speed getting down to his stomach and then back up quick, he would provide the next ball carrier the best position to keep rolling down the field. The good clubs do this - its quick advantage line football with quick play the balls continually pushing back the defence.

The guy is a great athlete but he does really important small things poorly. In defence multiple times he has been run over at the try line. A prop. It is because he doesn't get off the line, doesn't hit hard and lacks energetic movement in defence. He should not be playing 80 minutes to get his hindmarsh tackle numbers up.

It doesn't matter much when you get put on your back and play the ball slow.

Also he has been part of the team all year and we have the worst total run metres in the league.

I would take less runs/minutes/metres if he wrestled, moved up in defence, hit hard and in attack landed on his stomach and played the ball quickly.
So, if we checked the stats concerning ptb speeds, Haas's would be demonstrably slower than other props??? That would HAVE to be true wouldn't it, if what you claim is accurate??

There has been plenty to suggest the players don't get along. It's been eluded to for ages that there is a divide between the senior and junior players.
ALLUDED.....just remember this the next time you want to use the of these words, elude/allude the letter E stands for ESCAPE and the letter A means ABOUT.

And of course, not to forget that those who would elude the discord so alluded to are in fact, trying to illude us.

Verba ita sunt intelligenda ut res magis valeat quam pereat, hey @Huge 🤔

I didn't know the phrase but looked it up. Knowing precisely what a word's meaning is a good thing. When two or more people have it in common it becomes a great thing.

True test would be from time of first contact to time ball clears the ruck - however there would be instances where he would've broken the line post contact which would have a bad reflection on overall numbers. They would have to be treated as outliers and removed for the purposes of this test, although that is the positive aspect that comes from his playing style.

If we do that and put it up against the front rowers from Roosters, Storm, Parra - nearly all clubs actually - I think he would be slower.

It is practically an impossible stat to capture unless you're on the payroll for a club or the league.

You're coming up with a lot of ways to ignore the fact that we will struggle to make meters this week.

For this team conceding 38 points a game the last 5 weeks it's going to kill them that they won't be able to score any points either.

Are we going to ignore the elephant in the room or are we going to turn a blind eye to the fact Payne Haas got given 2 weeks for that crusher because it means he also misses next weeks game which conveniently is against the hard done by Sydney Politis’/Roosters?

I responded to you. Two props will play 40 minutes each instead of the Haas 80 minutes and make 100 metres each.

As long as all our players catch at the advantage line, hit there stomach and play it fast - the team will make metres. Finishing sets and defence is also important in setting up position to make metres.

It will be interesting to see how the team does especially now with Turpin out.

How much worse can the team be without Haas when we lose by 40 every week with him playing 80?
