POST GAME Round 17 - Broncos vs Panthers

lol the posters salty about @The Don are embarrassing. The guy is far more respectful than the majority of us are to each other, and he makes far more well thought out and balanced posts than 90% of BHQ.

I don't even know "The Don"

Is he good?

I think a few posters should bear in mind Fifita is not long returned from a knee injury and he could have played that up for a lot longer if he wanted to. I don't believe he hasn't been trying and was the last guy doing his best to stop that try when Boyd fell over over...after 52 points had already been blown through us. He draws more defenders than any two Broncos in the team so given he's heavily marked it's no surprise he isn't 'on fire'.

Except for Haas, equally if not more heavily marked and who is always on fire, give or take a few defensive lapses. And he loves his club.

As for Fifita, given he doesn't love his club, and while not denying him the right to get the best deal, I prefer to invest my emotional energy into supporting those players who play for their club first rather than cash. In any case, I don't think Fifita has deliberately clocked off. I just think his heart isn't in it anymore. Because of that, I agree with @Jedhead. I would also prefer to see Riki, whose heart is in it, given more opportunities, even at Fifita's expense.

On this point, Peter FitzSimmons recently wrote in the SMH about Titans Jamal Fogarty, who plays for peanuts out of love for his club and the game: "Blokes like that, who set the tone for the other players, are worth 10 times the million-dollar lads who are after the pay cheque alone."

You don't build a club best on cash. It's playing out of passion for your club that counts most.

That decent offload from a game or two ago which Milford didn't bother watching brought criticism for Kennedy but it was on and wasn't a crap pass, no sir it was perfect and like Kennedy himself is quoted as saying it was encouraged by Seeplod. I think there's a really solid bench forward there and I hope we keep him and put some work into developing his skillset.

He threw it behind Milford's back. Criticising Milford for that is a bit rich and betrays an agenda not rational analysis

I understand your rationale here, but I really don't give a toss about whether we get the spoon or not. What I'm looking at is the big picture here and that means leaving no stone un-turned in the quest to build this team back into the powerhouse it once was and challenge for a premiership.

That to me means I have Riki in the starting side and only use Fifita in a rotation system to ensure the rest of forwards are properly rested. The more games Riki gets now, the quicker he adapts to life in the NRL. At his age he has a lot to learn and those lessons can only be had while on the field testing yourself.

Fifita's defection has damaged the club for sure, I'm not keen on playing him when he currently seems to be phoning it in and doing further damage to our team attitude.
Maybe move Fifita to lock and carrigan to front row for the last few games, get him into the game more and gives rikki the starting position.

Milford gets the same treatment by opposisiton defenders but yet is not afforded the same latitude in criticism it seems....by some.

Not sure why you'd be defending Fifita.....he's going to another club (and has kinda shit on us)

**** him off....
Not really defending him but offering what I think is a better balance when judging him. I understand both arguments for playing and not playing him and both have merits and drawbacks. My view is his comeback from injury performances would have drawn little criticism if he weren't going elsewhere. We'd all be very understanding and offering his return from injury as a plausible explanation for less than stellar performance. Don't you think there's some merit in that?

... and Haas to the back row, just for fun and carnage out wide.

Sorry buddy but Milford turned his back on the play and had he paid more attention, as most posters have noted he would have received a great pass. It's got nothing to do with agendas and I'm tiring of your endless references to it being the 'reason' for any criticism of Milford. If I was the only one sick of Milford clocking off, lazy training and indifference it'd be fair enough but I'm not the only one am I? In fact there's thousands of us.

As you know I've been watching him closely for quite a while. He's played a greater role than a lot on here have given him credit for. One time Luke did pass left had Kennedy at first receiver in an attacking move 15 metres out and Kennedy kept it going out to Boyd who in turn passed to that rarest of things, a tryscorer!

Kennedy did a thing that annoyed me leading up to the SoS ref challenge.

it was the 5th and Dearden was thrown a terrible pass behind his head, which he did an even worse job catching. The ball fell into Kennedy’s arms who immediately tucked his head and ran for a settler, completely oblivious that it was the 5th tackle. Someone must have informed him because he threw an ugly pass to SoS at the death, which put him under massive pressure and lead to the pass attempt that should’ve been six again off of Cleary.

I know plenty of props have made the same mistake but that level of lack of awareness always gives me the shits. I could keep track of the tackle count in under 8s. This is why no prop ever seems to position themselves to protect our kickers on the 5th, like the good teams do. Completely unaware.

It's got everything to do with agendas - you're full of them to the point they blind you to objective analysis, and, I don't give a tinker's cuss about you being tired of my references which will continue unabated, and as for your predilection for hyperbole, it is matched only by your indifference to facts.

That is another option. But for mine I'm not re-organising our pack positions just to facilitate having Fifita in the run on side. Let's be honest - he's clocked off already. His mind is more on metre maids and the casino and spending his hefty chunk of coin. He'll be nursing that knee until season end. I'm not buying he wants to finish on a high with his mates. Actions speak much louder than cliched platitudes and his half-arsed efforts speaks volumes.

I was pissed when he signed. Now I'm bitterly disappointed because he can't even be arsed to show the club his gratitude for all they have done for him by 'putting in' for the last few games. With such a show of ambivalence towards the club I'd be very reluctant to have him back if he ever made the noises after his three year deal goes south. This is not me being salty, it's me seeing how flawed his character is, and when push comes to shove I think he'll be found wanting.

Understand where you're coming from but we don't have much to choose from, would much prefer him then hoppa . I just really don't want the spoon.

But we don't need to choose between him and Hoppa. We're talking here about putting Riki on instead of Fifita and using Fifita has a bench forward.

Like I said put him at lock , gives rikki his spot and we have carrigan and hass as starting props . You do realize we are really thin in forward options.

Riki is gonna miss the titans game due to suspension so you guys might have to put those plans on hold til the game after

Aside from the ridiculous suspension for Riki, I don't want him starting yet as he is still a kid. These kids, no matter how talented they are, need to start earning starting spots with repeat gun efforts like the best sides do and our side used to do. I'm not saying this because of Riki, I'm saying this because of the principle that there are too many entitled kids in this squad who all think they should be starting but haven't earned it. The problem is compounded by Fifita getting $1.25 million without having earned really just over half that.

Everyone seems to have forgotten this point. Hopefully we have more room to move next round and maybe Fifi will feel inclined to do something if we get closer to the line.

The problem with Fifita is his work rate. He is confident now that he can pull out a miracle play more often than most players so seems to think he doesn’t need to do the hard work.
