Will take the win, but jeez it was ugly.

Disappointed that Reynolds and Mam didn't stand up in a game where 4 were coming back from origin and haven't been there all week... Walsh was our best from the spine, but a bit too erratic at time.

Basically had to win the game with only one member of the spine contributing and Billy off the bench in his super sub role.

And for the love of god can you fix up your execution of the early kicks or do the **** away with them.

Thought we had major contributions from the lesser knowns in the team to compensate for the underwhelming spine members.

Thought both Karapani and Mariner were good in yardage... Arthars needs to watch his back, because Mariner's game was far better than what Jesse has thrown up over the last month or so.

Was good to see Staggs make a serious effort in yardage... Shiba was down on his yardage, and rightly so having to back up and come down from a massive high of the decider... and Staggs probably put up his most hitups in a game with 17 for 226m, he had some linebreaks, but was definitely putting in work out of yardage.

Talty was really good off the bench... churned out 100m in 34mins and a try. Willison and Patty churned through the meters, but felt they weren't really impacting the game. Talty was getting in behind the ruck and creating some quick ptbs.

Riki went back to his soft running, which is a shame, because his last two games were great.

All in all let's just get into the bye and rest up for the run home.

Chuck Payne into a hyperbaric chamber for the next two weeks... because we bloody need him.

It's the first time all the spine has played together. Give them lease a couple games to get all the combinations to build
Given how close the ladder is, and our goal of making the top 4, I'm not sure they have too much time to get it right.

Although we kinda lucked out with the next 3 rounds. Hopefully they've figured it all out for the Melbourne game.

It was one of those games we just needed to win. Origin out of the way now.

Can reset after the bye and build towards the finals.

Just glad we won!
Good origin period for us as well.

Rd 12 - Bye and Origin 1 (Patty and Payne the only reps)
Rd 13 - Lose 34-6 away vs manly
Rd 14 - Win 44-14 at home vs titans (up the all blacks jersey!)
Rd 15 - Bye and Origin 2 (Patty and Payne the only reps again... Ezra 18th man... Patty 34mins!!)
Rd 16 - Win 34-28 at home vs sharks (annual non-origin team during origin game)
Rd 17 - Win 26-12 at home vs wahs (annual non-origin team during origin game... NRL ****ed up not sending us to NZ though)
Rd 18 - Win 22-18 away vs dogs (origin affected, but pick up a big win in Sydney)
Rd 19 - Win 26-14 away vs titans (origin boys backing up, but Payne gets a rest
Rd 20 - Bye

8 week period and we go 5 wins from 6... sets us up very nicely for the run home

Same period last year we lost every game during the origin period (0 from 5) and only ended up winning Rd 20 in Newcastle when Reece finally played a game, so 1 from 6 games.

2023 same period we won 5 from 6 as well... only loss being vs titans after game 2... included the massive win in NZ without the origin players.

I thought our defence was pretty good for most part. Main worry though is Mam and Shibasaki combo. Mam always turns in and leaves three running at Shiba. It's our weakest link in defence and we'll get burnt if they don't fix it. Mam has always done it and he still does it now.
I thought our defence out there might've been struggling because Gos looked a bit off the pace.

Piaks has upped his game in defence... he's become good at checking and releasing and then pushing from the inside.

That was noticeably missing from Gos... he probably doesn't have the speed to check and release and then push... so Mam and co aren't able to slide as quickly.

But Mam's reads in defence are typically horrendous... in the sharks game he was torn apart in the first half

Deine Mariner 156m with no linebreaks to bump up the meters... if he can reproduce that effort consistently then Arthars ain't getting that spot back.

I'm hoping Madge rewards that effort and makes Jesse force his way back into the team... create some serious competition for those wing spots.

That is a back 5 meterage you can win games off... Shiba getting near 100m after backing up is pretty solid as well.

Ezra seems to contribute as well... not always in yardage, but he seems to end up with over 100m a bit... I would actually like to see him take dummy half runs in yardage. He gets back there to play dummy half on yardage, so he could easily fake to the open and go for a run down the blind.

It's not in the gameplan, so maybe that's why he doesn't, but would add an extra threat for the defence to consider instead of being able to load up on the outside backs running 1-out

so for nearly $1 million a season this is what the Titans got for their money out of David Fifita:

25 mins; 3 runs for 29m; 11 tackles

Fletcher Baker gives us a better return than that
For the money Fletcher Baker is on i'd take Fifita though.

For the money Fletcher Baker is on i'd take Fifita though.

Really? and end up costing yourself Willison at a minimum (Maybe even Jensen as well)

because that's what the extra $700k buys us

Is anyone else on the a well played loss would be better than dishing that shit up every week yet?
