Round 19 - Broncos vs Titans - Post Match Discussion

Macca has been very good the past two weeks.
I have to agree with the comments regarding Wallace. What did he do to get MOM over Lockyer or Hoffman?
On Beale. he is no winger but he was good out of dummy half last night. His miss on Mead was poor.
It'll be interesting to see what is going to happen with Gagai and Copley. Copley has been around for a couple of seasons now.
I thought this year was his year with a centre spot up for grabs. He still needs a lot to work alot on his defense.
Gagai has offers on the table from the Eels and more recently Gould is looking to bring him down to the Panthers.

great performance in a week where we are historically awful.

I've been very impressed with Macca lately, he's getting better at the right end of the season. Hopefully he keeps improving and perhaps even play 80 minutes in the future if he's fit enough.

Baptise should be on the bench ahead of Hunt.

He just wanted people to know about the wet conditions.

No surprise to see Beale having his place in question. He is a solid performer who does very little wrong. He doesn't have an x factor so we can't possibly keep him in the side...
Not really what I said...

I think Gagai (and Yow Yeh) offers more than him on the wing. As does Hoffman at fullback, or Hodges and Reed in the centres, which leaves Beale out of the 17 alltogether.

This doesn't mean I think Beale is crap. He's a very good depth option!

But I'd rather lose him to another team than Gagai, if the rumours are true.

Problem with too many good players is you lose some of them. Problem with that is, down the track, who you lose turns out to be better than who you keep.

Looks like we are back to having our weekly scapegoat. No matter how good or bad the team goes on the night, someone from BHQ always suggests a bloke be dropped.

This week Porthoz wants Gerard Beale dropped.

Who will it be next week??????

The hot tip will be Ben Hunt/ Andrew McCullough

I'm pretty happy with Beale on the wing, TBH.

He's got some excellent footwork, good pace and knows how to finish. Seems Hook is a fan as well, so I can't see Copley or Gagai displacing him anytime soon.

Scapegoat? Do you even know the meaning of the word?

So, when the team is winning, no player should be dropped, regardless of whom is on the sideline waiting to get in? :duh:

Good article, altho you mentioned the wet conditions twice in the first sentence :P
I did too! Didn't notice that, I'll try to avoid the same mistake in future.
Thanks mate :)

Count me in for that one.

Not McCullough, I've been very impressed with him lately but I think Baptise is a better option than Hunt on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and IIRC Rebbecca Black says Saturday and Sunday is after that, so those days too.

Hunt should be playing 7 in Q Cup every week for the rest of the year getting ready for next year in case he is required to play halfback.

While I'm not against making changes regardless of it being a winning or losing side the changes still need to be justified(and that justification is more then just what they can potentially bring) and with regards to Gagai this season I have to question his consistency this season in first grade. I'm not convinced at present theres a strong enough case to drop Beale who has been a strong and consistent performer for Gagai who has had a few good games and more average or poor ones in first grade.

Apart from the bad night in Canberra, Gagai has improved every week. With his last game against the Eels being his best. Beale has been playing well at fullback not wing. Beale has never performed well playing wing. He is not a winger. He always been shaky under the ball playing wing which was on show last night. His miss on Mead was also just another example of his weak one on one defense. His best position is fullback but the team has a guy call Hoffman. Beale would make a good utility/hooker coming off the bench if he brushed up on his defense. He runs well from dummyhalf. But the team also has a guy call Baptiste. Though Hook prefers Hunt for whatever reason.
I rather persist with Gagai/Copley on the wings.
