The 8 game losing streak wasNah I don't buy that. We've had several games this year where we've looked like we couldn't bother. The players have dropped it left, right and centre game in, game out. Yes we got absolutely destroyed by the refs early doors but there were games we should have won if we turned up and just didn't.
8 dogs (this was actually a win (a great win) and actually won a penalty count!!)
9 rorters (3 starters missing, but destroyed by the Klown and Gee because we won the penalty count the week before)
10 manly (away in brookie... team didn't turn up, but also ... 6 starters missing)
11 wahs (magic rd and destroyed by the refs again... 5 starters missing)
---Origin 1 and the bye
13 dargs (day game curse, backing up from origin on top of 3 starters missing... should've won, but they didn't turn up)
14 titans (day game curse, Titans GF, players eyeing off Origin II so they didn't turn up, 5 starters missing... Kini knocked it on, but vibes all the way from the bunker)
15 rabbits (away in Shitney and didnt turn up... origin players missing, 7 starters missing total and Reynolds got injured on his first run of the night)
---Second bye post Origin 2
17 rorters (effort was there, but still had 6 starters missing)
18 sharks (origin players missing, 7 starters missing... shit errors that would've been overcome if it wasn't a reserve grade squad playing)
So the losing streak was kicked off because the refs had to rectify the penalty count from the previous week, followed by away to manly with half the starting 13 missing and then refs had to keep the fairytale going at magic round.
Dargs, titans and souths will be losses that the team looks back on as the killers... dargs was post origin 1 and I'd say this is where origin starts to hurt us.
Players love routine, but they've got players coming in and out, origin guys backing up who basically turn up for captain's run and game day, coaches coming in and out, probably physios, doctors, etc. in and out because they're off doing Qld duties. Then you've got guys protecting themselves during games so they're available for selection.
The whole thing just becomes a massive distraction to the actual competition and definitely to Broncos (the old boys talk about it being a distraction)... by the time origin 2 finished the players realised the season was slipping away and the effort finally returned... unfortunately we were still missing half the starting team.
