POST GAME [Round 21, 2021] Knights vs Broncos

Considering the team we put on the field has a significantly reduced cap I think we did alright. Due to bad cap management the team we are putting out this year is lacking as much experience and talent as any of our most origin depleted teams from the glory days and a win during those periods or even being competitive would be celebrated for the achievement that it is.

With Staggs playing we are a good chance of winning that game last night. Swap Croft for Adam Reynolds and Glenn for Capewell and all of a sudden who knows what could’ve happened.

The light is definitely begin to glow at the end of the tunnel. The last few weeks our defence has been steadily improving and the last few games have seen massive gutsy efforts in the opening 10 or so minutes defending back to back sets.

Defence is the key to being in the top 8, solid attack built on top of that makes you a premiership contender. Cartwright and Kev seems to be slowly improving the team in that area, and the attack can come later.

Our biggest flaw next season is still the lack of a top fullback.

Have I got this rule wrong?
If Oates is standing beyond the 40m line and catches it, doesn’t that mean the ball has travelled 10m?

because it would have been a penalty to the Knights. Oates was hoping the bounce went our way and took the ball past the 10m line

Ah the moment when Glenn loses balance and falls over allowing a simple try in. My brain went right back to Darius playing defence. It's sad when everyone else sees it.

To be fair to Lexy I think he sees it and he knows it, he is just so close to the finish line now he is just trying to hang in there and given this year is a right off the club isn't going to push him which I agree with.

If Glenn cared for this club he would step away right now. It's clear that we have faster, stronger, fitter, more skillfull players not in the 17 to make way for his retirement lap.

I'm thinking Broncos are just doing him a solid by letting him play out his last few games, since finals are no longer an option. There is no way he is in any NRL 17 side on form.

I personally put Glenn in the same category as Thaiday. Clearly past it in his final season, but given the service he has given to the club, he'll be kept in first grade until the end of the season (where he won't be offered a new contract)

I hope this shit stops.

Melbourne and Sydney don't do it.

Melbourne and the Roosters are never in a position to do it. players rarely stay at those clubs until retirement (usually lured away by big money offers).

it's a Bennett trait.

Very different situation. No club would do this if they were in contention for a premiership or even the finals, I struggle to imagine a club with nothing to play for that would kick out their captain and a one club player 4 or 5 games short of their retirement.

The issue is more around re-signing players on deals that put them a year too long and with a whole new regime that have shown enough to suggest the won't be doing that it feels like flogging a dead horse now.

Finally our defense is going in the right direction . Our attack not so much . Very accurate assessments from comments above I'd agree with . But f*** me, little things I'm getting a little tired of like the Herbster hogging that ball .KW should be screaming at him . Even at the death of the first half he could have drawn and kicked down the sideline for Oates, no intention of promoting the ball, just going dead with it , is not smart football. Draw and F******pass , then F****** back up and the old simple one two can actually be quite effective ! ! Some of these boys are just overhyped Dummies!
I think KW is just shuffling the deck chairs week to week to see what shakes out. The rotation choices are odd ,but I feel KW may be exhausting all his choices before he puts the real roster together next season. Frustrating to watch but we are making positive improvements especially to attitude. Despite the score , I enjoyed their better commitment to defense. But seriously that refereeing?

That was hard to watch at times.

Walters - Learn how to use your bench. Kinda an important part of the job. 3 props on the bench, when Haas plays 70mins. What's the point of Kobe playing 30mins?

Glenn - Finished as a player. If Kevvie refuses to drop him, then he needs to limit his playing minutes. His effort on Cliffords try was putrid

Kennedy - Had a game which reminds me of how truly shit he can be.

Niu - Simply one of the dumbest players we have. Some of the shit he does makes me think of Isaako at 1. He has brilliant footwork, but almost a negative IQ. Even his try assist to Oates was poor, he double pumped and held it too long and he is lucky the touchie is useless. His defensive efforts on the Pearce and Clifford tries were yuck.

Levi - Showed why he should be a 14, not a starting 9. He was really good in patches, and made some bad misses in the middle that Turpin wouldn't have, like the really easy break Frizell made up the middle.

Riki - Needs to be spelled more, can't handle 80mins. We don't need 3 props on the bench when Haas plays 70mins.

The first thing I thought when the first half ended was that of course the play dies with Herbie 😂

I don’t get the hate for Farnworth.

You only give it to your winger when they are in a better position than you. Twice last week he gave Oates a saloon passage and twice poor old Corey was too slow to capitalise (couldn’t get around Dearden).

Oates quite literally looks at least a yard off the pace, so I believe it’s likely Herbie doesn’t have a great deal of confidence in giving him the ball.

If he had someone like the Hammer outside him and wasn’t giving him the ball, then I’d happily join the bandwagon. But he doesn’t, so I wont.

Another flawlessly executed short kick off from Isaako.

Has he performed a single successful short kick off/drop out this season? I don’t even mean successful as in we get the ball back, I mean one that hasn’t resulted in a penalty?

In fact, has he gone a full 80 minutes without a placed kick penalty?

This one was at a under more understandable circumstances than usual but I still have no idea why he’s allowed to try these still.

And this is my problem with Isaako, these key moments when he can actually have an impact he is not making it count.

Just like those first two missed shots at goal were critical.

Its not about fancy footwork, its about nailing the jobs he has been entrusted with.
