Also zero chance he dives if he knows he’ll cop a ban for simulation. Thats the only way to solve Harry Grant dives imo
They are never going to go this way, because you then risk the 0.001% chance someone is actually injured and you've got a ref/bunker saying they dived. Which imo is something they'll never risk.

I think the only way, is if the ref on field doesnt find it penalty worthy and they stay down for head contact, its HIA and MRC deals with it. Even better, bring the 2nd ref back which helps the ruck anyways, and they'll be a better chance of seeing penalty worthy high shots.

If the ref misses an absolute clanger and the bunker has to step in, it should be bad enough for a sin bin/send off only. In which case the person that stayed down would also be going off the field for a HIA.

I think it's because they slow it down and it's all black and white, he either did make contact with his head or he didn't and once they're in that situation, they can only rule it that way.
Ive seen the bunker throw out a "high contact is deemed incidental and is therefore not a penalty".

It was most likely a game management situation where they didnt want to give the team a penalty for minor contact because it would have too big an influence on the game... so made up a rule on the spot.

Its the reason why challenging for foul play was specifically excluded in the challenge process... they didnt want to be forced into penalising every single touch above the shoulder.

Imagine if on last tackle the attacker recovers the ball but is tackled straight away and kept on his feet... and during all the activity the attacker feels a slight touch on the head, because hes fighting to offload and the defenders are fighting to wrap it up.

Challenge, penalty for high contact... brand new set.

The admin had it correct with the original intention, but as usual the morons in Sydney have forgotten the rule... I can imagine it will pop up on the one time broncos try to challenge for foul play and the ref gives a "you can't challenge for that"

When Nathan Cleary took a dive in the opposite scenario I don`t remember this much uproar ?
Different scenario.

That was the old Isaah Yeo play that coaches and fans had been whinging about for years. King was in no-man's land so while fans rolled their eyes it proved the point that it wasn't just a Penrith play.

Fans and the media were upset when both the Knights/Sharks field goals were pulled up. However nothing was really done, especially since it turned out that Ponga missed regardless.

I think for the knights / sharks ones they have multiple players basically setting up a loose wall, but theyre disrupting guys coming from the 10m so I'd say penalty still appropriate.

For the panthers one Harry goes out of his way to run into Moses, and Munster who's coming from 10m wasn't actually impeded because he was running around him.

I think pretty much everyone had forgotten the rule, because the knights / sharks examples were last year... it'll now be front of mind and anyone loitering in front of the kicker is going to be a target for chasers whether theyre disrupting the chaser or not.

Clubs need to go back and sharpen up on their field goal setup... they need to make sure all the middles are out of the way

I remember one like that last week (high contact, but video ref says mitigating circumstances as the player was falling, no penalty). It was similar to the Katoa one, but I'm 90% sure the defending team was the Bulldogs, so...

There was one when Fainu and Saab were competing on a kick and Saab made contact with Samuela, but I was fine with that... Saab is competing on the ball and his arm gets him in the head, but you can't expect Saab to worry about where someone's head is relative to your arms when trying to catch it

Do they want the team to be choir boys? Panthers, Storm, Dogs and Roosters' players got in players' faces all week. Tigers too. Does Crawley expect a bunch of hammies to be torn off the bone next week?

One of our players probably took a dive - good! Every team does it and its gamesmanship, Broncs do it, nope that's not in the spirit of the game.

At least it has the talking morons talking about it being an issue because it is, a massive blight on the game almost as big as the six again farce.

My work has a Suncorp Stadium membership. Does anyone know if the Broncos happen to make it to a prelim if the membership extends to finals?
Thanks In advance

As per usual it only ever pops into the spotlight when a bronco does it... completely ignores that at least 2 dolphins took dives (Katoa and Lemuelu)... haven't watched a replay so there was probably more given they received 9 penalties... #PenaltyBroncos alive and well 🙄

It's provocative.

It gets the people going!

Manufacturing controversy is very profitable. Especially for the Bronco-hate-riders!

Suncorp Stadium memberships include every game played at Suncorp in a season which does include finals.

I'll take a ticket thanks 😆

The one I'm thinking about, the defending team was like 5 metres out from their own line, right in front of the posts. The ball runner slips and cops across the face, pretty hard.

Wahs had some last week I think... they were claiming they ducked their head into the contact... I think it was Demitric Vaimauga?

Taruva and To'o will need a new tactic if that's no longer a high shot... nah never mind they wear a Sydney jersey so they'll be sweet
