POST GAME [Round 25, 2021] Broncos vs Knights

The kick was the only one and it resulted in a try anyway. Not sure what occasions your talking about? Except the one where he did throw the pass and set up Oates try.
I haven't gone through the whole replay, but here's an example of what he does. Start 18 minutes into this. Oates was away here. Also look at Kelly's rocket pass to Milford. I love that shit.

Also not at all convinced on Nui, he seems like a fatter, less attacking version of Milf (@broncsgoat are you interested in starting a new bandwagon?). I'd love to see Cobbo there but Staggs and Cobbo in the centres means you're sorted for the better part of the decade.
I will have to come up with something to argue about, I’ve been banhammered in the conspiracy and covid threads so I may actually have to talk about footy on here again.

either that or I can look into the global warming hoax……

Yeah that’s a pretty decent example. I definitely do agree he needs to learn to pass to his winger early sometimes. They’ll need to work on that in the off season. I think all the skills and input he does have is a massive starting point for someone his age. His defence has far improved, he is skilful, quick and often beats his opposite centre with his step back infield. He also has one of the best kicking at full pace I’ve seen.

He just needs to work on his draw and pass and he’s a great centre.

I took a screenshot to show what you’re referring to. I think the pass is the right option but the winger had already turned his shoulder to contain Oates. Hard to call it a bombed try but I agree it was probably the better option. Hard to see if Oates scores from there but that was once Oates bread and butter so he may well have.

This is the instant Herbie catches the ball.

Oates would step inside and plant that. He does exactly that later in the game when he gets a pass that cuts out Herbie.

Herbie needs to watch how every other team does this to Coates. Oates will run over the top of his opposite number 9/10 times.

Like I said this is only one example. He also has a tendency to put his outside man offside by doing his little jink step thing. Good centres run diagonally, target the winger and put him in two minds. Herbie runs straight and does a bunch of steps. It's hard to support.

We would do that too if he was staying. Only way he would make the side.

I think Herbie probably could have beaten his opposing man with footwork to the outside which would draw the winger back into him leaving a nice pass to Oates to score. All in a perfect world of course.

I think overall we actually agree. I don’t think what you’re saying is wrong. I think we mostly just disagree on how suitable he is overall for centre and if it’s worth giving him time to develop in those areas. Cobbo is looking so good that he may make the argument moot and force us to select a Cobbo/Staggs centre pairing.

It's going to be very frustrating listening to all the "broncos screwed up letting milf go" talk over the offseason and into next season. At the end of the day the guy hasn't been first grade standard for 2-3 years and the right call was made.

Since been dropped to q cup Jordan Riki has been impressive. Brilliant first contact in defence and a high work rate. He's a good kid.

The most impressive thing for me was how we continued to perform when Hass got injured. The best trait of all the top teams is their ability to perform when understrength which we 100% did. TC Robati is a tank of a human, he's going to really fight for a bench spot after a big pre season.

Tesi as many have mentioned is an odd one. My favourite thing about him is he craves work. He takes the hard hit ups early in the tackle count but his support play is very good also. Remembering how young he is, if he continues to develop then who knows he could become a top fullback.

Just quietly, if Latrell Mitchell does what Herbie did in the lead up to the Tesi "no try" every man and their dog lose their shit. He changed hands he was carrying the ball in, beat players and finished with a nice kick. That was a gorgeous peice of work.

If Herbie had taken the low risk option and passed it to Corey for an easy try in the corner, everyone would be giving me shit about saying he's not a centre and he never passes. I have mixed feelings about that.

The try where Oates stepped inside to score came from a Herbie pass, he wasn't cut out.
