Round 25 - Broncos vs Dragons - Pre Game Discussion

The last two times we've played at suncorp we have put 40+ on the team we were playing. I honestly can't see us losing this game. Shut down Dugan, Widdop and stop Merrin from offloading and we will win easily. Allow Merrin to stand all night offloading and Dugan to run amuck and we might just lose.

Our pack is 1000x better then theirs. The score line should reflect this after 80mins hopefully.

The storm are a different story. They always seem to beat us. Wing and win well agains the dragons and we might have a great platform to beat the storm.

The knight and Storm win this week, the Storm tank against us to shut the eels and warriors out of the finals = profit?

Granville appears to have done his dash :tsk:

He's not named in the the ISC side for this week either. 5. Jordan Kahu is named though.

Easts v Wynnum should be a good game:
Easts Tigers v Wynnum Manly Seagulls at Langlands Park on Sunday, August 31 - 2pm* (Live on Channel 9 / WIN / NBN)

If we win this one and the Storm lose against the Roosters, we effectively go into a playoff for a place in the 8 against Melbourne. They will be on 30 and us 28, we have the better differential. So more than anything this is a must win match because there is more chance of Melbourne losing to the Roosters then the Eels losing to Parra and/or Canberra.

I don't know, I reckon a few of those Parra players love to beat themselves off. Probably not what you meant though...

On a serious note, I believe the Raiders can beat the Eels. To answer the question that just came to your mind, I've been smoking nothing. Mental stability is seriously in question though.

Lol. It's possible. But it would be even more disappointing to see us lose against the Dragons & then have Storm lose to the Roosters.

Worst case scenario would be a play-off for 8th vs Storm in Melbourne. But we're likely to face a similar challenge in the first week of the finals in any event, it would just be to avoid the embarrassment of "officially" missing the finals for 2 years in a row.

But at least going into this match we won't know the outcome of the Storm v Roosters game.

FORMER Kiwi forward Bronson Harrison is one of three players added to a beefed-up Dragons squad while Josh Dugan and Benji Marshall have been cleared for their clash with the Broncos.

The Dragons yesterday named an extended travelling squad for the fixture at Suncorp Stadium on Friday.

Dragons' coach Paul McGregor selected a 20-man travelling party for the trip north of the State line, which includes Nathan Green, Harrison and Jack Stockwell on the extended interchange.

Dugan and Marshall have both been cleared of any respective major ankle damage and will continue to train under observation ahead of the match.

That Dragons forward pack...

We should kill them, I'm not sure how they've even been winning games.

They've been playing plodder teams. Raiders and Titans the past 2 weeks following a loss to an injury depleted Panthers. They aren't anything to be too concerned about.

I can't quite figure why everyone is so confident of an easy win against the dragons. They will be also playing for a spot in the finals and they do have some firepower. I think it will be a fight to the death and only a few points in it. Dragons always have a good following at Suncorp as well. This should be a really good game. Broncs to win by less then six if Hunt and Hodges are on their game.

Could we please have a game where Maguire does not give away at least one stupid penalty.

I agree 100%. The Dragons do have some real firepower who in a way, are like a lot of our best players: are we in the mood to really turn it on?

Marshall, Widdop, Dugan and Morris are the Dragons. Their pack is ok. Not great but they can hold a pack, even dominate one, if it's not switched on.

Dugan has to be watched like a hawk. He's a lethal runner. Morris just loves it when his opposite comes inside or is just standing flat footed when he gets the ball.

Someone has to be in Widdop's and Marshall's face all night, if possible, as soon as they get the ball. The alternative is to do what we did with Reynolds in the Souths game: give him acres of room and an hour to spare to set up the right kick for Inglis, and for Inglis to set himself to run and catch it.

Mind you, they think they can make the finals, so they will try to do the same to us.

As long as they shut down widdop and Marshall they will win and win well. Their forward pack is gross.

I'm not sure what how the actions of the souths coach could result in us getting a penalty

If by switched off, you mean in a coma or something, then sure.

Haha too true

When Ben creagh is in your forward pack. You have a shit forward pack

When Ben creagh is prop, you're fucked

I would be more worried about McGuire giving away stupid penalties, to be honest.
