Round 26 Discussion

Raiders, you magnificent bastards!

I so love Milford.

When he gets here, he better play well.
Just make sure his parents are at every game, notable difference in his efforts when they were in the crowd.

what on earth did Scott Prince just say in that cross ?! Something about a price and a hand ?!

I had a feeling Eels would choke. I think the loss of Peats and Tonga hurt them in the back end of this season. They relied too heavily on Hayne.

If I have done my calculations right, if results go the way they should, we would most likely be playing Cowboys in Townsville if we make the finals.

While we're patting people on the back - I think it's worth noting that our resident League expert Ari Gold stuck his neck out and predicted that the Raiders would beat the Eels.

Well in mate.

And with that game, we say goodbye to the Raiders & the Eels.

Tale of two teams really.

Nothing was really expected out of either team but one team was well and truly alive in the competition until the final round of footy.

The other was gone a long time ago.

It's been a really tough season for the Raiders. Was always going to be with Milford announcing his departure before a ball was ever kicked - to lose your best player in those sort of circumstances is just gut-wrenching. However, it seemed like the Raiders were prepared to compound that error by sticking to the structures which have held them back for so long. All the issues that have been evident over the past few seasons were all on show yet Ricky just stuck with those structures until injuries forced his hand. I'm not sure if there are many positives to take out of this season - Croker I suppose did well to top the point-scorers list and we saw some nice moments from players like Vaughan, Lee, Fensom but heading into Season 2015, it appears they'll be back to square one.

I've got to say, the Eels were one of my favourite teams to watch. I just liked the shape they played with and the way they were able to shift the ball with ball-playing backrows and speedy backs. Even Sandow had his moments and it was fun to see him experiment with his running and kicking game. I think there were a lot of good signs moving forward, they just have to refine their play to ensure they get the most out of the talent because the talent is most certainly there.

Oh...

And Norman still sucks.

I don't think I've seen a more indecisive half in all my life. Taking his subway order would be a nightmare...

Bit rough Pete saying Raiders back to square one, first time since Germ we'll have a good hooker, Wighton looking great at the back, Cornish showing he has what it takes to be in first grade, Boyd and Vaughan coming of age, all the youngster plus most importantly should be the end of Campo, McCrone and White. Milf gone will hurt us in attack but improve us defensively just up to the whole team now rather than waiting for his magic. If we land Austin on top of Hodgson, Waqa and Soliola we'll be much improved as a whole.

What was the stuff I saw about Waqa reneging and going to play rugger in Europe, or was that all just more media b/s???

I'm not suggesting that the Raiders won't improve but this season by and large has been a waste.

Sure, certain players like Cornish received a taste but it was all too little, all too late. There is still a lot of work to get through and I cannot see them achieving anything worthwhile in awhile.

Agree the year was wasted, Cornish should've been starting round 1 and used this year as a rebuilding year, which at least reserve grade has been by using 18 and 19yos like Bateman, Mago and Pangai Jnr. If we get Austin we'll be genuine contenders for the 8 IMO, 2016 for higher hopes.

Yep Lynx it was typical media BS, they haven't spoken to union for 3yrs and there was no clause.
