Everyone sees the Diamonds (.except last week, he was a quarry)
The problem I have is, as you pointed out, he has always been rocks and diamonds. At what point does he improve and start to be a few more diamonds than rocks ? Isn't experience supposed to bring that.
23 was a good example lots of diamonds along with the rocks. Last year and this year more rocks than diamonds.

Quarry. :rofl

Fair comment too.

But - we've got experience in the halves. I'm OK with the youthful exuberance atm. Cool and calm will be his job in a few more years

Look, he got his head taken off multiple times last year. I think that's a big part of the "to the line" yips and a general lack of confidence. Not to mention a new coach, two halfbacks and a missing 5/8th, I'd be surprised if he was running on all cylinders yet.

There's a decade and a half of a player left in him. If he doesn't ever take the #1 fullback mantle, there's still enough magic dust sprinkled on him to be a nett positive. If he's icing 2-3 clutch plays a week in his sleep, I'll give him a pass.

I was at the game so couldn't see the telecast, but from what I could see Kobe was the only bloke out there cutting guys in half in defence.

I think we need that out of our starters, because Patty and Payne aren't hitting guys in defence at the moment, and Jensen sure as shit won't be either.

Maybe he wasn't making 10m a hit up, but he was at least trying to stop the yardage game when they ran anywhere near him.

I thought Patty's first sting was pretty ineffective tonight though... he was getting cut down pretty easily and I thought it was interesting that Madge decided to take him off and leave Payne on, which is the reverse to what's happened the first 2 games.

Patty made over 100 meters in 30 mins. I'd say that was pretty effective. None of our other forwards made anywhere even close to that in that opening stint. Maybe Madge is working out you simply cant keep playing him 50 or 60 mins straight ( or 70 mins plus under Kevvie ) for the last 3 years. Its not sustainable.

Stacey Jones said the same thing back when he was at the Wahs .
Kid doesn`t want to learn / change .

I don`t think Billy Salater blowing smoke up his arse hasn`t done him any good IMO .

And ,,, commentators rave about Walsh`s speed . He got burnt last night .

Walsh isnt quick, he's got incredible acceleration but he isnt up there with the speedsters.

Maybe our attack is just too flat? A little bit more depth will give Walsh that extra half-second of time to make better decisions. As it is, we are so flat that if Reece hasn't already got space before he gets the ball, he has no chance.

The other possibility is, now that Staggs is back, Walsh can take a couple of weeks in Q Cup to get his confidence back. While Cobbo to fullback makes sense, you don't want to mess with the other combinations or change up the style. Anyone think Mariner could handle fullback? He's the closest thing to Walsh (acceleration) as opposed to just Brute Force Cobbo.

Same shit different toilet .
That move has been studied , and the counter practiced .
Run across field , use up the space , then throw the impossible pass .

Ground hog day .

I said last week another bad game or two and Selwyn is playing #1 .
Then Selwyn`s retention becomes another issue . Full back money ?
Yea, but I think with some more running threats around him, he would be harder to stop (even if they know it's coming). 2023 he was kicking, stepping inside, etc. when opositions would rush up. I think he's just panicking a bit now.

Cobbo was looking good with those kick returns from fullback...

Yes. The depth that the riff and Storm run those backline moves is how to do it. Mind you they have genuine options from their edge backrowers to delay the defensive slide.
I'd love to see them set up using Payne as the edge backrower. He is the closest we have to an Olakau'atuto / Katoa and any half would be wearing their shitting pants when they see him coming.

Think Reece will get 2 for the shoulder charge. Ennis certainly did his best to highlight it.

Nah, that's an over reaction. No way Reece is going anywhere, as frustrating as the little fucker is .

Unfortunately that spectacle, for me anyway, was entirely dominated by the ongoing car crash that is Reece Walsh's ball handling. Everything else was a passenger. Yes, even Payne finally hitting second gear.

I like the theory Ezra might be the key to unlocking Reece's third eye. I think, in general, Ezra will improve our attack immensely. Who he replaces, well won't that be an exciting topic of conversation for the next month? Billy, for starters, and then maybe we might hear Mozer's name again.

Our back rowers are very poor. Probably a bit out there, I'm almost thinking with his speed and movement Haas would be a much better option there until we sort out some better players, a bit like how the Storm sometimes use NAS. We have enough good front rowers, we have no good back rowers.

Haha great minds eh. I just edited a post with pretty much that.
Not sure on his lateral movement but I agree he is the closest thing to solving that problem
At least we could you him in that edge backrow position as the decoy / first pass option.

The truth is we don't have a viable backup, and of the options who could take his place, they'd likely introduce more problems than they'd solve.

From what I've seen of Latrell, he doesn't look like an upgrade on Sailor. Yet. And we all still have nightmares about him.

There's something off with Reece's ball handling under pressure. In the short term, he might need to tuck it and take the tackle more often. Not what we want in the longer term, but a nobbled Reece would still rank amongst the better fullbacks, and be the best on our roster.

Brandy is the shittest caller and is the reason for the heat on Walsh tonight. Twice Arthars dropped the ball and he called that it was Walsh. Laughable. I agree, Walsh was rocks and diamonds but i actually think he was the reason we won. The 40/20 was elite and the cut out pass was pure class.

Two good plays .
A half dozen bad ones . Not the right ratio .
