POST GAME [Round 4, 2024] Broncos vs Cowboys

Tonight Oates looked great, it was a winger's try that he scored, let's be honest.

If he is required to play on an edge for any period of time against an elite halves combination, that will be what Kevvie wants to know the answer to, can he defend well and make the right decisions. The running of the ball won't be a problem, he's a great carrier of the ball.

We won that game early with the Reynolds Riki bomb kick chase, it had Drinkwater rattled and completely off his game.
Our forwards were great, Kobe and Willison off the bench were a great combo provided plenty of impact and hit hard in defence.

The reception for Oates was so good to see, Reynolds started playing both sides of the field but more on the left when he came on. Oates knows how to hit a hole and Reynolds knows that too and it could become a real attacking weapon late in games.

Couldn't tell you how many runs he had because I'm mildly intoxicated but there was one where he had 2 or 3 hanging off him and he was still making ground. His meters are so important.

The one thing with Oates compared to our other backrowers tonight is he has a lot more physicality in his runs. I've been on the Oatsey train in the back row, or as a bench player for a while. I think he's a great option.
with the short dropout kickoff being more a thing having his height would be a plus

I suggested he be our 17 in the off season and was lambasted by all on BroncosHQ.

I don't think that many people are insisting that he be in our fully fit seventeen, or that he shouldn't be in our injury-hit seventeen...?

I can see Oates coming on late in the game and being our version of a Shaun lane in attack. Set up for a sweep play and while everyone has eyes on Walsh/sailor, a short ball for Oates to stroll over.

Tremendous game and a great win by the boys. But I have to say it Billy Walters had an amazing game and really showed he's worth playing in the NRL.

Could offer a real point of difference throughout the year. Bit like a Piakura-lite.

Won't go close to a premiership with him there though, I'm reliably told.

Carrigan is an absolute machine. Week in and week out, putting in 110%. Thankgod ARey came back this week, he was what we needed. Super proud of Sailor. It’s not easy having to replace Walsh but he did a great job.

Selwyn didn't have his finest moment tonight but then I look over at the Cows and they've got million dollar Val getting towelled up by Kotoni for most of the night, basically made no impression on the game other than catching a kick where all the hard work was done for him and knocking over a couple of conversions.
I think Staggs has been the form centre in the comp just quietly. He’s been unreal in defence and had his moments in attack. He looks to be taking more of the grunt work on out of trouble too.

Surely he gets into the nsw side if he keeps this form up.
